  1. Hey, just a heads up: for some reason, I can't click on the layout image to bring up the larger version, like on the other layouts...

  2. Just made this... (With traditional diodes though) sounds beautiful...bit more woolly and grainy than the other two muffs I built.

  4. Hey Anders, do you know if the Russian transistor/diode version sounds any different to the usual 1N4148/5088 combo

  6. Ian, as to your question:

It is a very good thread...
look for Billy Boy's posts (there's more than one)

(from what I've gathered: try also 2N5859,
    and focus on those 3 caps -- C10, C12, C11 in Kit Rae's schematic)

(In his #8 post tells who to get close to the Sovtek sound.)

    2. The first fuzz I ever owned was a green Muff. It broke, I think the same day that that I bought it. But the sound of it was forever imprinted on my brain. No variant that I've tried behaved quite like it. Until I found this:

I think that the top tagboardeffects layout is the "Bubble Font" version? At the time it was just a poorly made, but amazing sounding, monstrosity. But this layout nails my memory of that thing. Shows how a few component changes can drastically change the performance of a circuit. I wouldn't say that it's the best version but man it's doomy as hell. It's pretty over the top. And sounds pretty different from the Civil War/Tall Font version, I think.

    3. Sorry, I don’t know why I’m responding to you directly Brian haha

    4. Yea right, it resembled a tank, but was not built like one! I have both V1green & V2 black Sovtek models, the pots would twist all the way ‘round, knobs would crack, wires would break, the switch was big, clanky & tight, but the sound was familiar to its predecessor in its own way!

    5. No worries, Tom, sometimes I guess the posts don’t no where they wanna go :)

    6. This was years ago and I had no experience with electronics. I think I just gave it to a friend who knew how to fix it and he never gave it back to me. Haha oh well

    7. I can relate, I still get tons of old pedals from people who don’t play anymore? Majority of them just need a new battery snap, but some have broken traces?

  7. This is such a great (beautiful, functional, intelligent) layout !!!
More beautiful than a good PCB!
    Thanks, Anders, and congratulations! :)
