Marketing speil says this is a "reel-to-reel saturator overdrive" that is inpired by Akai GX 210D reel-to-reel tape machine. You might get similar sounds out of this circuit which is basically a SHO with three separate clipping switches for each clipping mode. Not sure why they did this since you can get similar clipping options with a single SPDT on/off/on switch...

 

 

Miles Platting In-A-Box

 Time for a a guest appearance. Sebastian sent me some interesting layouts that might interest some of you. Here is what Sebastiam says about it.

The best-sounding amp I ever played through was a friend's Miles Platting 100W head (made by Wilsic Sound during the 1970s in Doncaster, England), which was basically a Bassman preamp going into a Marshall power section. So I did a JFET translation of the preamp and grabbed the "power section" of the model feT and voilà, a Miles Platting-in-a-box.

A few things keep in mind for experimenting...

The resistor across the Gain Boost switch is labelled 100k in the schematic which seem to be quite high.Try a smaller value for R2 or jumper it if you want to omit the Gain Boost switch altogether.

For a mor Trebkle Boost switch, increase the 56pF cap for a bigger value.

Guyatone FZ-2000 Fuzz

 A pretty cool design, this. A FET booster that slams a FET Fuzz Face with hard clipping LEDs.

All 10k Source resistors is replaced with trimpots for yeasy biasingg.

A big thank you to Deadend Fx for the trace of this rare bird that was old in Japan in limited quantites before the millenium.

Guyatone SD2 Sustainer / HD2 Harmonic Distortion

 mellasse sent me a schematic for an old Guytatone fuzz, Guyatone DS2 Sustainer. Looking at the schematic I noticed it was really similar to another Guyatone offering, HD Harmonic Distortion. The main difference is the tonestack, HD2 is scooped and SD2 is more mid focused. So this layout have a switch for both SD2 and HD2 modes. Some additional mods had to be made for more versitalty. The fixed tonestack with two 47k resistors is replaced with a 100k.potentiometer that pans bettwen a low pass and high pass filter...just like in a big muff.
