  1. If I recall correctly, the exact vactrol is required for this one to work properly. I don't think roll yer own cuts it in this case.

    1. VTL5C10 datasheet says light/dark resistance is 400 ohm/400k - which, looking around seems like it is going to be pretty hard to match with currently available LDRs. Even the reissue Xvive optocouplers at places like Cabintech don't come close to these specs.

    2. I wanted to build one some time ago. I think Smallbear has the the proper part, but I think they're stupid expensive. But buying the proper parts would still be cheaper than buying the actual pedal I guess.

    3. anywhere from $150 used to $270 new - seems like a $12 vactrol might be a justifiable expense, albeit a little higher than i would want to pay just for a most likely one time build on an unverified layout. Still - this is from a pedalpcb schematic and those are usually right on. I'd probably still stare at it for a long time to try and find anything Anders may have missed, just to be sure.

    4. Personally, I've found a few compressors that I think are exceptional as a guitar pedal, so I won't justify the buy for myself personally. But I tend to always talk myself into things like that. I bought some BBD chips the other day thinking, "Well it's cheaper than buying a backup Deluxe Memory Man." But honestly, I need to chill. I spend too much money on components.

  3. Waiting on the vactrol to complete this. Could we also have the Aion Convex at some point (Dinosaural OTC-201)? I used to have the original and it was a lovely comp.
