Verified! Worth auditioning a few different transistors to fine-tune the sound, but it's great. BIG low-end. Funny we spend all that time building giant circuits like the Dunwich stuff when this or a Meathead sounds just as good.
Thanks for posting evilarsen & thanks for being the guinea pig, Sebastian! I put one together right after I saw your verification. I could probably take or leave the BIAS controls (if it's not maxed it sounds a bit muffled) but it's fun to build these smaller circuits and have them sound so good.
The Frost Giant stuff is pretty cool. I built a SOMA from a previous dirtbox post & ended up buying one because I liked it so much. I was curious about the MASSIF but I don't have space for any more one-knob fuzzes. I'd try the Mountain or some of their other pedals if any of those layouts ever get posted. Thanks again!!!!
Ended up slotting MPSA18's today and I think they give it a more buzzsaw-type sound. Flipped the orientation on one of them & it reduced the noise but still sounds incredible (MPSA18 pinout is opposite of BC109c so keep orientation in mind if subbing). Planning to box it up once I get an enclosure.
I haven't built the Pink Goat, but I'm sure they sound completely different. The Pink Goat is based on the Roland Bee-Baa, and the Massif is inspired by the Colorsound one-knob fuzz - totally different circuits.
#Ckngmad I never finished mine. I've never done that before. Started and just lost interest. I did see someone compare it to a Rat. Far from the same thing but I liked the Fuzzlord FET 120.
Built and working great. Agreed with above, will likely remove my Bias control as maxed gives the doom! Tried with BC108c and MPSA13 (watch pinouts) so far but will mess about with others.

DeleteI just built dunwich da 120, and I feel like it lacks of some texture, I dunno. It's just too stable, consistent sustain texture. Mid oriented
DeleteIs this massif famine sounds like fuzzhead pink goat?
Cause both used bc109 trannies

DeleteOh yeah, and the Pink Goat smokes
