EarthQuaker Devices Zap Machine V2

 Traced by Gray Bench Electronics.

It is basically a heavilly tweaked hybrid Tonebender Mk. II. I added an anti pop resistor at the input and reoriented the 4,7uF cap.

Schematic and teardown video is avaiable HERE.

  1. Speaking of GBE, he did a teardown of the Fairfield Barbershop V2. Would you consider doing that one? The version you whipped up sounds great but it does pop as the V1 was prone to do, and I'm curious about some of the other changes. https://www.freestompboxes.org/download/file.php?id=40174&mode=view

    1. Will definitely do a layout for Barbershop V2 since there is quite some changes compared to the earlier versions. It might take a couple of days, though...

    1. I'm sure you've moved on but it looks like the mods in the GBE demo are fairly straightforward. Correct me if I'm wrong but the Bite control would be C1K, lugs 1&2 would be connected to the emitter of Q2 and lug 3 would go to ground. The red channel would get scrapped and the Gain pot would connect to Green 1, Red 3 (scrap the link) and Gain two would connect to channel switch 5. The 470r connected to Channel 2 would be eliminated. The 1K and the -LED connection can be eliminated. I think that would match. But I just looked for a few minutes out of interest.

  4. This is verified. It sounds great to me. The two channel thing is probably a little redundant, as afore mentioned. I tried the GBE mods that I guessed at above and they seem to work (I hope me description makes sense). Now the "Bite" control becomes a blend knob for the additional gain stage making the switch redundant (very smart Joe). The EQ, though simple, works very effectively. Thanks as always Anders. Hope everyone is well.

    1. Thanks Tom!

      Taggged.

I'll take a look at the ZM V1 schematic. As I understand it it basically traced? Just a tiny question mark regarding one of the resistors...
