Marshall GV-2 Guv'nor 2 Plus

  1. I'm thinking about to build my first Guv'Nor, and I'm looking this newer version.
    I noticed in this layout a little mistake. In the up left corner 100k and 6.8nF have to be swapped, and the 6.8nF has to be 68nF.
    I didn't build it, but that could work fine.

    In the schematics I found the 10M resistor is 1M.
    And the 10pF in the input is a 47pF, but the input approach in the modern original schematic is different, with ferrites, etc... The effect of that cap could be minimal.

  2. Hey everyone - for folks interested in building this, I did it with Elijah's suggestions (upping the 6n8 cap on Deep 3 to 68nF and swapping the position of that cap with the 100k resistor) and it works great. So I think you can call this one verified with that correction. Also, I removed the 1m resistor to the right of IC2 and replaced the 470k resistor between Treble 2 and Volume 3 with a jumper. This adds about 6 dB of output volume. I also removed the 22pF cap on pins 1 and 2 of IC2 and I really like the way this makes the Deep control sound - but I also play on very low tuned guitars (B standard/Drop A). Others claim that mod alone is not enough and to make it more usable you can also try swapping these values that are on or near the Deep control:
    4k7->10k
    470k(that connects to Deep 1+2)-> 150k
    22k(that connects to Volume 2)-> 220k
    1m (that connects to pin 2 of IC2) -> 220k
    22pF-> 47pF

    This is a great sounding drive and for anyone interested in adding a charge pump and making it an 18v circuit (I did this and it adds volume and treble clarity) you can just use NE5532's instead of TL072's and make sure your caps are rated to at least 35v
