Hard to say if this is verified. The lowest I can get Q3 to bias is 8.3V. It sounds decent as is, unboxed has a bit of a squeel, but the overdrive sounds a bit unrefined and sludge-like. This could be the issues with the Q3 bias. I tried a bunch of J201's with the same result there.
I replaced every cap and resistor around Q3 with no change. I put a lower gain transistor in there (2N5457 or a 2N5484) this lowered the bias to around 6.5V and it sounds much better, though still noisy.
I had the same problem with one of the JFETs (can't remember if it was the same one), and I solved it by upping that JFET's bias trimmer. 250k got the bias down around 5V, and it sounds glorious now.
