Mountainking Megalith

Here is two layouts of "mother of all doom fuzzes". One smaller with Notch switch as a toggle to make it easier to fit it in a smaller enclosure. And one larger with all caps on board and rotary switch per original. Both layouts is verified and rocking.

  1. You said it was "THEE doom fuzz" and you weren't kidding. I haven't been building these things very long but I've done a lot and I've been completely in love with the Hoof Reaper and the Ultra Stoner/Rat pedals. All the other fuzz pedals I've built never make it to their level but this one... Wow! So heavy. It just wants to doom. Thanks for the suggestion, it's amazing.

The off-board wiring on this one was hard to just freehand like I usually do. It would've been a pile of chaos. I had to throw it in DIYLC and make sure I got it right then I wired it into the enclosure.

I found a couple errors. The cap connected to the base if Q3 should be a 470nF and Lug 1 of the More pot should go to ground, just Lug 2 goes to the 47uF positive.

    1. Hehe, I had a feeling that you would like it. I really don't know what possibly can be heavier than this? Very impressive to fit it in such a small box! And thanks for reminding me to upload the corrected layout. Had a big enclosure lying around so I built a sligtly larger layout a couple of days ago with rotary per original so I uploaded that layout as well.

    2. Hey MTK,

How did you wire your "More Heavy" footswitch? I see a DPDT footswitch there, but I'm not sure how it's wired...Thanks!

    3. Hey, man. The layout should say More Heavy Sw 2 to Output Lug 3. If you want to add an LED, connect it to More Heavy Sw 4, ground to Sw 5.

  2. Got a graphic for this one in place a few minutes ago. M82 Starburst Galaxy. Space seems like a good fit for the heaviest fuzz out there. The new small layout needs to have Output 3 / More Heavy Sw 2 updated. Thanks again for letting me know about this one. I'm really digging it.

    1. Your works are great!
I know I ask for anything, but what did transistors you use? I see BC338-25 and BC338-40 with lower or higher hfe.

    2. More Sw 2/Output 3 connection fixed.
It still baffles me that you managed to fit everything in such a small box. And very nice artwork and fonts.

    3. Thanks, Mr. Head. I appreciate it. I'm actually using that font for the Model T pedal as well.

      Elijah-Baley - I used BC338-40's from Tayda. I just tested 3 from the tape and they're between 340-350 hfe.

    4. I thank you, I'll put a pair of them in the cart. :-)

  3. whats up with the 1nf on the output?

    1. I don't know the schematic where this two layouts come from, but just one of the two layouts has that yellow 1nF I think you said.
That 1nF is simply across 9v and ground, in parallel with the 220uF, usually we can see a 100nF there, maybe 10nF.
he bigger layout has no too much room for it. There's a little space just to the right of the 220uF, but I doubt you can fit it there. Often the 220uF is a large cap. But don't worry, it's not necessary, I guess.
The Output 1 (the volume pot) goes to the ground, nothing to do with the 1nF cap. The signal goes to the Output 3 and the output effect is at the Output 2.

  4. Just finished this and its amazing..still have to try more transistors 2n3904 sounds great in Q2..but oddly there's not much difference with Q3..even if I leave it out of the circuit..still sounds heavy as balls

  5. Operation Cram a Mountainking Megalith into a 1590A-tall was a complete success. No room to spare. Is it a Microlith, a Minilith, a Mini-Megalith? I dunno. I had to move stuff around but it fired right up. So much heavy from a tiny box.

    1. ...or Nanolith.
Quite speechless to be honest....if I ever going to buy a fuzz again it is going to be that one....

  7. I’m struggling to get the more led working, everything else works great. I attached the +led to the point labelled on the right side of the main board and attached -led to pin 5 on the “more” foot switch like it says in comments, I also tried attaching the + to pin 4 of the “more” foot switch but still no luck. Could someone clarify how this is attached please? I really love this pedal but the lack of the 2nd led is bugging me

    1. The +LED have to go to the board, I think as you're doing. The -LED have to go, reading the suggestion some posts above, in the lug 4 fo the footswitch More. But you have to connect the ground to the lug 5 of the footswitch More. So when you engage the footswitch the -LED goes to the ground.

  8. I built this, but when I set up the board on my test jig, I somehow bypassed the tone controls entirely. Sounded incredible, but none of the switches or tone knobs did anything. Then I figured out what I had wrong and fixed...all the tone controls became responsive, but I could not get any sounds out of it that I liked nearly as much as with the tone controls bypassed! So I bypassed the tone controls and boxed it up, and it is my new favorite fuzz. Thanks for the layout!

  9. I just built this about a month ago, and it’s awesome. Just wondering how to go about removing the more heavy switch altogether, and just having the more heavy mode on all the time, because I never use this without more heavy off.

  11. Hey guys
    I built this heaviest pedal
Cardboard enclosure and flower sticker lol
Model it like two stacked amp head
Separated power supply using l7809 regulator
    Slide potentiometer on slope
    So much doom
    I'm using 2n4401 and 2n3904
    Diffused yellow led
    Played on bass c# tuned
    Thankyou for the layout
MTK and Fuzzhead is my hero

  13. Hey Fuzzhead! I just made this , and it seems to work well, except the "more heavy" switch, when I flick it , I get mega volume drop , is this normal ? It is so strange , makes me wonder if this switch is even necessary ? I can just put more sw3 to output 3 , no ?
Besides this, it is an excellent effect, just wish there were more doom effects for bass guitar! Thanks for all your effort you put in the website and all the layouts, very cool !
