EarthQuaker Devices Levitation Reverb

Feeling much better today so I was able to do some layouts. Thanks for all the kind posts and email I've recieved! It really helped keeping the spirit up!

First up is another EQD circuit, a quite tweakable reverb. Schematic is avaiable HERE.

  2. So I had genuinely not heard of this. It seems it regenerates its own reverb back into itself. It sounds just beautiful I've not seen a Belton brick used in this way.

  3. Good to know you're doing fine!

  4. Glad to hear that you are doing better! Take care of you!

  5. Used to own one of these. Really awesome reverb!

  6. I'm actually in a bit of a pickle because I ordered 1uf capacitors... (box type) which say 1j63 on them. If I Google 1j63, apparently its 100nf...what gives ๐Ÿคท‍♂️๐Ÿคท‍♂️

  7. It happens. I’m sure you’ll use them. 100ns in everything. It bums me out when I get the wrong thing. But being forced to slow down from time to time is probably good. You could probably use electros if you have em. But you’d have to work out the polarity.

  8. I think F and N would be -. I think?

  9. But do you think 1j63 is 100nf?
    Im really confused!

  10. I now think it's correct, and I was mistaken. 1j63 is 1uf.

Idk I haven’t come across that suffix. I tried searching it and it seems it’s a European code. Being in the US I guess I haven’t come across one. Maybe I have. It’s a good idea to get a cap reader though to make sure you’re within tolerance. And then if you come across a mystery part you can just test it.

  12. Good call... I've tracked down one I can borrow

  13. Thank you very much Anders for this layout! This is the best Belton-based reverb that I built. VFE Springboard didn't impressed me too much, DBA it's too strange for my taste and other EQD (one with a PT2399) didn't work at all. Maybe it will replace my eternal EHX Nano Holy Grail.

    1. Im diving into this one today. Did you indeed build this very layout and can verify? Thanks!!

    2. Yeah, I'm sure you built this layout, can you confirm?

    3. It is now confirmed that the layout is good to go. Tagged.

  14. Great for your work, congratulations! I have built one and it sounds great, but I have a strong POP! when I turn it on, I have tried with a pull down resistor at the input and output and it does not solve the problem... does anyone know where the problem could be?
Thank you very much to all!

  15. Solved!...a very small jumper between two rails of the vero....the usual mistake!!! jajaja

  16. Ordered the brick and can't wait to get going on this one. Thanks guys. :)

  17. Finally got the brick... I've built it and it works however it is quiet. Any ideas?

    1. Have you checked solder bridges, voltages and the placement of the components?

      Delete
    2. I always check component values before soldering. There are no bridges. But haven’t checked voltage. It works but nowhere near unity.

    3. Mine is also very quiet. I can hear the dry sound of my guitar but the reverb sound is very faint. I've started investigating components, so far they look alright.

  18. I just glanced at the schematic quickly. I didn’t spot any 1nf films. Maybe try upping them to 100nf. Could be an oversight. Check it the schematic included above.

  19. Well, I've just checked the schematics and they look ok apart from C9 - 1u capacitor that seems to have reversed polarity but I think it's not a problem I'm having, it looks my reverb module is at fault. Possibly some internal amp failed in it.

  20. Super heartbreaking.....I get a good clean signal, and not one drop of reverb. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผ‍♂️ I feel tempted to remove the chip and try it in a known working circuit....๐Ÿค”

I'm really sure I've done this right...

    1. Hi Ian, I've got exactly the same problem with my build. I've managed to find with an audio probe that the reverb is actually working but is super quiet. Trying to repair that I've started swapping the resistors to balance the opamps gain but that didn't help...I blame the reverb chip at the moment since the layout has been confirmed to be fine.

  21. I'm going to build up a quick 3verb and test the chip in there....I'll report back

    ReplyDelete
  22. Well the chip didn't work in a 3verb either...(just silent) so now I'm wondering....๐Ÿค”

  23. I just wanted to confirm that the circuit is working and sounds ok. I had a short underneath the ic socket, first time something like that happened to me, crazy things.

  24. What size Hammond are people using

    1. hi, you should be able to squeeze it into a 1590b enclosure using slim profile top mounted jacks.

  25. Can anyone give some advice on how to connect an expression pedal to the "Atmosphere" control on this guy? I gave it a shot using a switched stereo Neutrik jack, but was unsuccessful. Thanks!!

    1. Make sure to connect atmosphere 1 to sleeve (ground) then 2 and 3 can go to ring and tip. Easiest way is to eliminate the pot altogether, but you can use a switched jack that disconnects the pot connections when a jack is in use.

    2. Thanks so much, Orion! I'll give that a shot.

  26. Thanks for the layout! I Put a Ghost Echo and Levitation in one box, here's my build:

  27. Hey all - I'm going top be doing this one up as soon as the BTDR-3H bricks I've ordered show up. I'm curious if Anders or anyone else wants to sound off on this topic: I'm considering re-drawing this for a single quad op amp (hoping the TLC27M4AIN will sound as cool as it does in the reverberation machine) and I guess I'm curious if anyone here has any reasons they think that is a bad idea? Either way - I'm going to try this as drawn with a pair of duals first, THEN see if I can give myself a hard time with the redraw!

    1. Go for it! See no issues using that op amp. Not sure if it will sound closer to a Reverberation Machine though, the circuit design and passice component values is quite different. But I'm sure you can tweak it to your own taste!

  28. Hi everybody, I recently built one of these and I have an issue I'm struggling with:
"Atmosphere" pot is not working. I know it's a simple feedback loop. At first I thought there was some wrong connection or short but I couldn't find one. Suddenly after a while the atmosphere thing begun working and the circuit sounded perfect. I played for some minutes then shut the power. When I powered it again after some time the atmosphere loop wasn't workin anymore. This has happened twice. I can't find where the problem is. I audio probed all the circuit and I have sound in lugs 2 and 3 of atmosphere pot. The only point a get no sound is IC2's pin 2 but I can't tell wether is normal or not. Can anyone help me?
