Screaming Eagle - ENGL e530 Amp Emulator

Another ENGL 530 amp emulator based on a russian schematic but with quite a few extra knobs and switches added by JOK3RX at FSB.

  1. And here is the monster !
Do you have a link to the original fsb thread ? Didn't find it
I found a layout from 2018 at tagboard and thought is was yours
9 pots and 2 switches...I wonder if puting the gain on a single dual pot would make sense ?
Anyway nice compact layout, thumbs up !

    1. Some info here:
      https://www.freestompboxes.org/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=24201&hilit=engl

Regarding the gain pots, yeah, I think it is the way to go if you want one gain pot. Remove one of the waffers in a dual 100kA pot and replace it with a 50kA waffer...

Yes, that was one of my older uglier layouts at the tagboard forum....

  2. I went through the layout and found a few mistakes :
    - Lower leg of the 33k col 9 should be F9 (wrong side of the 4n7)
    - Lower leg of 3n3 just after should be connected to VRef (row E or F)
    - Presence 3 is actually presence 2&3 (and Pres 1&2 is therefore pres 1)
    - Mid 3 to Bass 1 is missing in the notes
    - Gain A is 100kA
otherwise it should be good to go

    1. Great, thanks for that Alltrax74.
Made the changes, looks better now?

  3. Notes say Volume 2 to Output, and there is also a Volume 2 and Output on the board and no Input. I built the board and got to the off-board and got a little confused.

    1. Updated the notes. Output is connected to the board only, not from Volume 2.

    2. If you look at the attached schematic, input is S1

  4. Thanks folks...I built it and no signal at all. Went through the schematic and the 43k resistor from Q3 should go to ground.
I de-soldered K15 and connected it directly to the J&M-14 link and it fired right up.

    2. Si, how does it sound, do all the controls work properly ?
I built the small version (engl 3) on the blog, i love it and Wonder if all these extra controls are worth the hassle

  5. It’s a banger of a pedal. They sound very much the same. The sweep and presence control make it a bit more versatile. I don’t really like the gate function, it kind of just makes it sound glitchy and fuzzy. The fat switch sounds more like a mid scoop to me. If I had it to do over i would probably just stick with the Engl 3, but it still sounds really good.

    1. Thanks I'll stick with the Engl 3 then (I implemented the gate pot on it by adding the 2 diodes and it works very well)
