  3. I bet 2N3906, 2N5087 or 2N4403 would work.

    1. I'll take a look tonight.
Which transistor for Q1 do you have in there? If you are using a 2Nxxxx transistor it should be flipped 180 degrees.

    2. I'vve checked the schematic vs the layout and the only issue that I could find is that 560 ohm resisor that connects to the base of Q1 should be connected to the collector. Not sure it will help since it is only some low pass filtering.

  5. I believe I got this verified. Had to move the 820K resistor from E of Q1 to B of Q1. Also used a 2N3906 in Q1 rotated 180 degrees.

  6. This will beautiful beast, if you use germanium transistors.i used Q1 hfe=50, Q2 hfe=60, Q3 hfe=85! Q3 try silicon with hfe150-650 if you want, you will get differents resaults. Dont forget to change bias resistor 220к from base Q2. I used 100k for norm opening.

  7. Built this with a 2N5088 in Q1 and it doesn't seem like the fuzz knob doesn't do anything. Almost sounds like fuzz is locked at 50% no matter where I turn it.

    1. A BC559 is a PNP transistor and a 2N5088 is NPN - you need a PNP - try 2N3906, 2N5087, 2N2907 etc

  8. Built in full compliance with the scheme, there is a very large volume reserve and very strong distortion, but the Fuzz potentiometer works only at the end, 90% of the potentiometer stroke gives absolutely nothing. What could be the problem and how could I fix it?

  9. try different taper , maybe 1k c ? reverse log is used a lot for fuzz

  10. So, guys, I want to share my experience of building this fuzz. For the circuit to work correctly, you definitely need the C1K potentiometer to control the overdrive level. Now the Fuzz is regulated smoothly and along the entire stroke of the potentiometer. The circuit sounds correct. Before that, I installed the A1K potentiometer as indicated in the circuit, but as I wrote above, the Fuzz adjustment was practically absent and only worked in the last 10% of the potentiometer stroke. Also, sometimes an octave overtone appeared, which should not be with a correctly assembled circuit. Therefore, please install only C1K to control the overdrive level. Otherwise, thanks to the author for the circuit of this fuzz, I confirm that if you assemble it in full accordance with the circuit, you will get a really good-sounding fuzz.
