Been fashinated by gyrator tonestacks for a while and when I saw this wah circuit by Olivier Jambois I had to give it a go. Sounds very good and powerful and it is loud! Schematic, a nice writeup and soundclips HERE.
Works equally well as a standalone bandpass filter pedal but I recommend to change Wah pot to linear taper since most of the action is at the end of the rotation.
Thanks for this layout! Sounds great, I just need to build a treadle for it now.
ReplyDeleteYour website is really cool and this is a great inspiring article. wah pedals for metal
ReplyDeleteJust I finish that … the sound pass through but when I turn the wah pot , it doesn’t make wah-wah … where is the fail ?
ReplyDelete… it’s ok … I forget again to check the lines of veroboard ,, and have a little tiny solder between 2 lines .. remove it and sound amazing … thanx fuzzhead
DeleteSounds fantastic. Really impressed - wouldn't believe it was non inductor just by listening. Ordered up a broken Crybaby from Reverb to house this.
ReplyDeleteBuilt this last night and it sounds great, honestly one of the best wahs I've heard in a long time. Fired up first time no bother, has a really nice sweep and the volume pot is a handy addition. It's just a pity the enclose I bought to use is a cheap POS. I've spent more time trying to make it useable than I actually have on the circuit!
ReplyDeleteWhat enclosure did you use! I've been eyeing up the AliExpress kit.
DeleteThat's the one I used. Thought I'd take a punt on it cause it was only £15 or something, but I think in the future I'd just buy a broken cry baby or something. There were a number of issues with it:
Delete- one of the screw heads snapped off on the treadle bracket
- I couldn't get the wah pot to tighten to it's wee space,
- the foot plate won't stay in position, it just falls down, so no cocked wah.
- it also didn't come with enough screws, needed to source some extra screws to screw the rubber feet on.
It needed a lot of extra tape, solder and super glue to make it serviceable.
I've made a couple of attempts with that same wah kit and, although I was able to get the treadle to hold it's position by wedging a couple washers in between the two hinge plates, I still wasn't happy with the method for attaching the little serrated plastic arm that is supposed to move the wah potentiometer. I tried using a couple different screw and washer combinations but could never get everything tight enough to not slip. If I ever attempt another wah-housed pedal, I too will probably just get a used/broken pedal and scavenge the enclosure.
DeleteI ended up using a strip of taped up vero board wedged up against the treadle arm to keep it from shifting.
