  1. Great, man! I'll give it a try tomorrow, once I get new board. And keep dreaming to find, one of these days, Keeley Monterey... :O)) Now, sir, that would be a challenge. Cheers!

    1. Great! looking forward to hear how it turns out. Looks like a neat design.

Ha! Monterey would be a monster of a layout!

  3. Here's the report:
Build it and it works. But I did´n't have neither npn germanium (lots of pnp, but no npn), neither enought MPSA18. So I use low gain silicon (BC546A) instead of AC187 and two 2n5088 and one MPSA18 for the Q2/3/4. I also use a 680K instead of 620K, and a 5K pot instead of 2.5k for gain.
    The results:
    a) Volume ok, but you have to invert 3 for 1.
    b) Pre-gain ok , but the same: invert 3 for 1 (and 2/3 instead of 1/2)
    c) Tone ok.
    d) Gain not very noticeable (tomorrow, I'll get a 2.5k pot and I'll check the thing properly).
Nevertheless, with all these handicaps, loved the sound. (But, hey, I'm not a doom fuzz fanatic! :O))
    Cheers!

    1. Thanks for another verification! Tagged and changed the pot lug numberings in the layout.

  4. Better results now with 2.2K gain pot, 620K as schematic, 2n2222A (as germanium sub) and increase of 1M input resistor to 2.2M.
But gain still on the low side. Probably some ground or solder fault on my building. I'll keep the debugging process till exaustion.

And I'm the one that should thank. So thank you again for the layout!

  5. And be warned: I'm heading now to the Lighspeed OD!... :O)))

  6. Last report... Improvment on the gain:
Revert the gain lug numbers from the board - where is 3 should be 2, and 2 instead of 3; and the the wire for 3 should also connect to Volume 3.
So - a) board to Gain lug 2
    b) board to Gain lug 3/Volume 3

    Cheers!

  7. rebuild today this one. Used npn mp38a, so i removed 220 ohm from emiter Q1, & changed 56kom to 180 kom on base Q1. I have got realy good gain & sustaine. Q2,Q3 - any with hfe more 500
