Is this layout definitely verified? I built one a while ago and it didn't work right, hardly any gain and not much volume, so chucked it aside. Built a different layout and it worked perfectly. Decided to go back and have another go at this but having the same issue as the first time. I'm sure there is something wrong with it but can't figure it out. It's driving me mad!
It is definitly verified, built a few of these. But there was a typo on one of the resistors. 390ohm resistor connecting to emitter of Q3 was mislabelled 390k.
I tried building this today but I couldn't get it to work :/ I looked at a couple other layouts and it looks you might have drive 2 & 3 swapped? I was looking at this thread http://guitar-fx-layouts.42897.x6.nabble.com/Death-By-Audio-Fuzz-War-td2760.html maybe you can double check since you've gotten it to work and I haven't
Hmm, built several of these to the layout works. Noticied that the Drive lugs should be swapped indeed, so it it changed but iether configurations will work. Check for solder bridges cuts and component placement etc.
Mine sounded a bit choked. I replaced r24 with a trim pot and dialed it in by ear. And I threw an on/on/on switch in place of the diodes. Sounds good without diodes ala Pharaoh Fuzz yet still sounds like a Fuzz War. And my personal favorite was a 3.6v zener paired with a red led. Now it sounds great with increased sustain but still sounds like a DBA. Also lower 5088’s and a slightly higher input cap value sweetened the deal. One of my favorites now. Like a super fuzz mated with a triangle muff. Thanks!

DeleteYou beauty! How did I not see that?!

I think the R24 is missing on the layout right now. Shouldn't it be between the diodes and base of Q3?
DeleteThanks for cathing that. Updated (Note so self:Always upload the latest version of a layout...)

ReplyDeleteHi there! Maybe I'm being blind, but is diode D3 on the layout the same at diode D5 in the parts list?
ReplyDeleteYes, it is the same. just a stupid typo on my behalf....:-/

What value is R24 supposed to have?
ReplyDeleteDepends on what diode you use, check the notes at the bottom of the layout
ReplyDeleteThanks! I need glasses :) I will give this circuit a go and report back
