1776 Effects RE-20 stripped down

Here is another great layout by Sebastian!

In his own words...

Just wanted to share a layout I did of the RE-20 circuit from the 1776 Multiplex Echo Machine. It seemed like there aren't a lot of options for delay effects with parallel, independent delay controls. For the sake of simplicity (and a layout that would fit in anything smaller than a shoebox), I haven't included either the speed-ramp circuit from the original Multiplex, or the modulation circuit from the Multiplex Jr.

  1. I've always wanted to try this one. I've also wanted to try the Sagan, I guess an attempt to emulate a Roland Space Echo. But the circuit is enormous. This version breaks the boards in two. May make it more doable.

    1. Check this one out Tom, four PT2399s on a huge piece of board. Sounds pretty awesome

    2. Man, the Sagan looks fascinating, but I just don't have the autrement for it. On the other hand, Dirtbox veteran MTK successfully built it, in a totally boss enclosure, too:

    3. That DA delay is insane. And that MTK build, I've seen before. It may be the coolest build I've seen.

  2. I built this and it works, but it's a fixed A+B configuration. So I made a few modifications and added the 4P3T rotary switch like the Multiplex to get the A-only, A+B, and the super wonky B -> A configuration. Then I added the Dead Astronaut modulation trick to IC1. I'm hoping to fit this all in a 125B. Wish me luck.

    1. Thanks so much for verifying the layout, Michael! And I salute your ambition to jam all that into a 125B. Bolder than I am!

And yes, this layout is indeed a fixed A+B configuration. I'd already built the Multiplex Jr. (which is Echoplex-style B-only configuration) and it's my favourite DIY PT2399-based delay. I've also long been in search of a Space Echo-style delay pedal with 2 delays running in parallel (as opposed to Binson-style, where the 2 delays are cascaded) with independent delay controls. So I just chopped out the parts of the Multiplex circuit that weren't to my own (selfish) interests, and that's what is in the layout.

Honest truth is that this is meant to replace my ancient & dead first-generation Kaoss pad, which had, hand to god, the lushest stereo tape delay effect (effect #24) I've ever used outside of an actual Space Echo. If you ever have a chance to get one, do!
