Just looking over the schematic and some things look a bit weird. D4 and D5 are 1n4148 and next to each other on the schematic. Should what's currently listed as D5 actually be D7 as D6 and D7 are back to back? D3 is at the end opposite D8, so should the current D3 actually be D5? I'm probably showing my total lack of schematic reading ability, but it does look a bit odd.
D3 in the pedalpcb schematic skips to the output. So here, D3 and D7 appear swapped, but it doesn't really matter. The schematic works as written and is correct. The diode clipping arrangement in this uses zener diodes in anti-series, anode to cathode- cathode to anode, in the feedback loop. It's an unusual arrangement you don't see very often. The clip is much softer and asymmetrical.
No problem - and I was slightly off. The schematics drift since D3 gets skipped, so here D3 and D4 are actually D4 and D5 in the schematic, D5 and D6 are D6 and D7, and D7 D8 are D3 and D8 on the schematic. Talk about confusing lol
Just finished building this. It wasn't working at first, but I moved the 10k resistor from IC1 pin 3 to pin 2 as Ian suggests above, and now it works great!
Seems to be a bit of a diode mix up, D7 is down as a 1N4148 as well as a 4.7v Zener.
ReplyDeleteD5 should be 1N4148 and D6 Should be 3.6v zener.
DeleteThanks for the headsup. Labels are updated.

DeleteCool, thanks Orion. Happy to be corrected. Learning something everyday.

DeleteExcellent. It's good to know I was partially on the right track :-))
DeleteJust a quick reminder to take a look at this regarding the above comments. Cheers, Ben.
ReplyDeleteHi there.
DeleteThe lables of the diodes doesn't match the BOM in the build docs. But the diode types is in the right spots in the layout.
Thanks Anders :-)
DeleteHey Anders, one small change and you can tag this one. The 10K connected to IC1 pin 3 should connect to pin 2 (R7 on the schematic I believe). Cheers
ReplyDeleteJust a quick reminder to make Ian's change and to tag it. The Jack's still my favourite, but this is a cool one too!
