It is based on MXR Dyna Comp but has some extra bits mainly for addidtional power and Vref filtering for Q1 and the OTA IC. So I had to add two extra rows but it will still fit in a 1590b box without problem.
Yeah, if you want a simple compressor, this is probably all that you need. Most guys set the compression at maybe 9 o'clock and crank the volume to 3 though. It has a lot of squish on tap.
It almost reminds me of playing a clean fuzz pedal...if that makes any sense at all. Into a drive it'll almost give you infinite sustain when comp is maxed.
Merci a tous.
Hi everyone, I built this board but I can't get it working. I'm getting a nasty, crackly fuzz sound when I strum hard, along with a repetitive background noise. The only odd thing I've found is that there's 2.5V on pin 6 of the CA3080 (even when I remove the chip from its socket). I've tried everything—checking my resistors and capacitor orientations—but still no luck. If anyone has built this and can share the expected voltages or offer a lead, I'd be really grateful. Thanks, everyone.
I think this is the one I'll take a crack at👍
ReplyDeleteThank you Anders. You're a true gent.😊
So many layouts, it like Christmas

ReplyDeleteThank you!
ReplyDeleteHi fuzzhead! I would like to make a request for another great compressor, the last version (v1.4 updated at 2019) of the Engineer's Thumb compressor.
ReplyDeleteSchematic and info here: http://www.valvewizard.co.uk/engineersthumb4.html
Thanks in advance
I don't know about a more recent version. But this one works quite well

Yes! I already built it a long time ago, but it's the first version

Tag this one Anders, sounds good to me!! Tom, would love to hear your verdict on this one

DeleteThanks Ian! Tagged. Did you use one of the new production 3080s?
DeleteI did Anders, its good they available again
DeleteAre the new 3080s easy to find or only at certain suppliers?
DeleteThanks
I'm buying them from here

Thanks Ian
DeleteMy chip has arrived....🤞
ReplyDeleteI have made myself a device that cooks expensive chips. I think I need a break.
ReplyDeleteThat's the worst. My attempt at the Frantone Brooklyn OD loves cooking chips.
DeleteShine a flashlight under the board and check to make sure you don't have any obvious solder bridges creating a nasty short.
