REQUEST: Someone has posted a corrected version of the Boss PW-2 distortion. It's quite unique sounding and was only sold for a couple of month. I'd describe it as "heavy plastic", but it can be used quite subtle as well.
Stumped! Tried everything, but whatever it is it'll have to wait for a more experienced hand. I'm getting a bit better at spotting things, but not this time.
Revert D5 and D4 - D5 + (anode) tyo ground; D4 - (cathode) to Vcc. Once you do that it's verified. I build it and sounds great. Big cheers to the vero master in the house. Just unrusting my iron.
Nah, don't feel bad - vero layouts can be super confusing with a lot of elements at play, it's easy to overlook something - literally everybody here has at some point.
After adding the cut at D4, everything fired up. My build does not seem to have as much distortion as the demos I have seen online, but it sounds really good into a clean channel. I swapped the 680pF capacitor for 2.2nF for more available treble cut with the highs control..

Please make a layout that fits into a 1590b (battery is not required...
Happy to see this one come up. Looks like an interesting circuit!
ReplyDeleteHmmm, getting nothing with this one so far. Will do some fault checking tomorrow.

DeleteAwesome, thanks Dragao! Sounds great 👍.
DeleteOne thing. Are you finding the high knob cutting off the signal when set at its minimum?
DeleteIndeed, it cutts off at minimum.
DeleteI suspect a cut on D/4 is missing. Tomorrow I'll try it and report about.
Deleteyep. Make the cut at (row)D/4, and the high knob can go all way down, without cutting the signal.
DeleteBrilliant. Works perfectly now! :-)

DeleteThanks guys for verifying! D4 and D5 is now oriented at the right direction and a cut is added at D4.
DeleteIt looks like the 4.7K should go from FET Source to ground.
ReplyDeleteThe link two rows back connects the 4k7 to Source
DeleteOh man, now I feel dumb. I stare at these schematics trying to get better at it. Good catch.
