Thanks mate!

  1. Nope. Thank you!!!

This is just a beautiful tremolo!
And as Always with your layouts it was a pleasure to build. No switch pop, and perfect in operation.
(I've chatted with culturejam on reddit- he's a really cool guy)

Thank you again. This is the perfect tremolo.

  2. Here's how I arranged the LED and LDR, just in case it's of use to anyone...

I used an opaque glue to set the LED into the bezel so that no light would leak from the back.

  3. If I was to make another, I could run the ground from E1, couldn't I?

  4. And of course my other questions is could I wire up a status LED in the traditional fashion and have two LED's? On for off/on and one permanently indicating the speed?

    Thank you

    1. Yep, you can use E1 as a ground connection.

And yes on your socond question, wire up the bypass LED as usual.

      PS.
      You demo is now uploaded.:-)

  5. How does it compare to the schaller tremolo?

    1. Smooth and much more tweakable, with lots of boost.

  6. Nice demo Ian and a nice sounding trem

  7. Just built this fella today. I totally agree with you guys, what a lovely sounding trem circuit.

Very tweakable and has so many sounds in it.

Great work on the layout and some awesome demos.

  8. Looks quite similar to the 4ms Tremulus Lune - adding this to my build list Pronto

  9. That's what it is. It's a modified Lune. It's a very nice tremolo. I love the ability to blend in square wave.

  10. I had one of these and liked it but was getting a slight pop. Rebuilt it last night and used a TL062 as IC2. I added an indicator LED and hooked + up at 17-G (Don’t forget the CLR on the + leg of your LED) No pop. Sounds the same as my V1. Gracias compadre.

    1. I wasn't getting any pop on my circuit...🤔

I did try both the tl062 and 072. I found very little in it but went with the 062

  11. 62 in place of the 4558. The ones I have rarely work. I was saying that this layout is superior because I get no pop now. Which is exciting. I do wish the effect was a little more pronounced. I might experiment with a different vactrol or a different LED. Overall it’s tits.

  12. I just made a second one of these with an off/on LED as well as anindicator LED.
It had a bit of distortion so I tried an LM358 in place if the 4458, and an ne532 in place of the TL072 with pleasing results.

  14. Hey, I thinking of making this tonight but does what kind of LDR matter? I have some left over from making a pedalpcb tremolo that I'd like to use in this build.

    1. Sorry, I've got no Idea....I guess the obvious answer is to socket and see, but LDRs are so cheap! And you can bet the people who designed the circuit have already done all the experimental stuff for you....

    2. That's what I was thinking as well. Socket what LDR I have to see if theres a difference and also the LED. I have a 10mm red one that could be funny to try!

    3. Now you're just showing off 😅

    4. Haha, its fun to use big ones but make sure you use the right CLR as I used one in a Hyperion build a while back. Whenever I turn it on I feel like I'm trying to signal Batman...

  15. Hi!!! I need help. I think I've done everything as shown in the layout (except for de 1458 instead of the 4558), but I get sound only for a few secs, then I have to roll down the volume of my guitar to sound. Also, the sound is very quiet and the tremolo pops a lot when depht is almost at max. It only works with my jazzmaster (in which I have to turn down the volume after a few secs to work), but not on my tele. Please!! I would love to have this pedal working. Every control is working fine, both blinking leds are working fine, but I don't get any sound from tl072's pin 1 when testing (it's supposed to be the op amp's output, right?). I'll leave some pictures so everyone can see what I've done. https://photos.app.goo.gl/XMKy8BxKbp7bXzrJ9

  16. Did you test it in the dark?

  17. Built this last night and have been playing around with it. Couple things i noticed that I'm not sure are "working as intended". Gain pot literally goes to 0 volume, I think this may be by design but kind of surprised me. Wave knob I lose all audio at some point in the rotation, this seems to be affected by the position of the depth knob at high depth it comes back as you get further down in a very abrupt square wave, which makes me think its normal just kind of odd. I too was getting a bit of distortion as was mentioned before tried the recommended swapping of IC's changed the 4558 (kind of sad I have a ton of these with little use for them) to the LM358, slightly better changed the tl072 to a ne5532 (i misread I guess, he said ne532) definitely don't do the 5532 makes it worse... Don't have a 532 on hand to change it. But it's pretty good with the tl072 just don't beat strings. I'm not sure where I read it but somewhere I saw a recommendation to use a little heat shrink between your LDR and LED then you can test without having to be in the dark or use some weird way of covering (I did this originally just put an undrilled 1590bb over it with all the pots connections to my test box coming out it worked. But the heat shrink worked awesome. Can just test as normal. Overall nice sounding effect, with a couple things that seem strange to me, but I suspect are normal.

    1. Something's not quite right there. I found this to be very glitch free. I've built a few now and they've been very consistent.

I didn't do anything about enclosing the LDR and LED, but I did make sure that there was no bleed through from the back of the indicator LEDs

    2. I had a moment to glance at it this morning before work. I used a pcb mount pot and the solder connection looks dodgy (on the wave pot) wonder if this is where the issue is. I’ll check that out. Is the gain going to 0 volume normal? Also if anyone can confirm, I can swap out that 330p for a higher value to tone down a little bit of the brightness (or possibly use a switch) correct?

  19. So with the volume control fully counterclockwise you get nothing. is that what you mean? That sounds right to me.

You shouldn't have any additional brightness. it should be the same

    1. Guess I was thinking like the gain pot in a dirt box that typically has a volume pot as well. It’s working great now I had leg 1 going to the wrong spot. I worded that question poorly about the cap, I’ll just tinker with it. It’s not that it’s brighter than no effect I want the ability to make it darker sounding. I’m pretty sure I just need to run a dpdt where thag 330 is with a larger value in one position and the 330 on the other. Thanks !

  20. A question about this circuit... The last few times I have made one of these, I've had an issue where the LED facing the LDR does not fully go out - it just dims... This causes an incomplete drop in signal...

It is so strange that I've had this problem several times.

Anyone have any ideas what would cause this?

    1. I purchased a box of assorted 5mm LEDs from Amazon and had the same kind of problem. They also wouldn't flicker when I used them as clipping diodes. Did you source a different brand than you normally get?

      Delete
    2. It's possible it's a different batch...I've been using them as clipping diodes with good effect.
I wondered if it was capacitors storing charge or something 🤔
It's driving me a bit mad because it was one of my favourite circuits! I've got one on my pedal board that is fantastic... Now I just can't get them to work right 😫

    3. What's so funny is mine would *audibly* clip, just no light. I've wondered if the power efficient ones didn't store a bit of charge like a capacitor.

    4. It was the chip. Sorry guys

  21. Works GREAT!!!!! thank you so much!!! I´ve used two TL072 and I can´t be more satisfied with the resulting sound!!

Is it possible to increcase the range of speed but making it even slower?.. that would be awesome.
