Fender Blender 3-knob Booster

This one is my favorite clean boost of all time and it is lifted from the obscure forgotten 3 knob Fender Blender. This rare bird had four tone settings; a great clean and poweful J FET based boost and three weak fuzz settings.

The 2N5925 FET might be a bit hard to source but a 2N5457 sounds identical to my damaged ears. And while the original had a 50k pot this layout has 100kA for even more boost.

  1. How does it behave in front of a dirt pedal as a gain boost ?
I'm gonna build the 5150 from your layout and from MKT's comments a front boost is a good addon

    1. Well, it is my "to-go" booster to push distortions and some fuzzes, works really good. I haven't built the BAJA 5150 yet so I can't really tell if they like each other but I suspect they do....

    2. Yeah, a boost is the way to go with the 5150. I actually modded it to have more gain but also found a killer stack to really give it fangs. Running an OD first to tighten things up and give it extra crunch, then a Colorsound Power Boost to give it more body as well as a nice push makes the 5150 come to life. Man, I tried using an Electra, Bazz, LPB1, and a SHO and they all didn't really do it for me. Here, check it out.

    3. Sounds killer! Curious which mods you did to the 5051?
I don't know why I keep forgetting about Power Driver/Overdriver booster, it is a dark horse. The amount of volume on tap is quite insane.

    5. I wish this blog allowed post edits...

I spent more time yesterday messing around with it and I've got it sounding as heavy as it can get without squealing from too much gain. This is what I was wanting from it. It's better than the settings in that other video.

This poor vero has been worked on so many times.

Stock settings for the first 20 seconds and modded after that.

Change the feedback resistors listed in red to up the gain. You can honestly set different values using the trimmers and it'll sound awesome, it's a give and take. A little higher here means a little lower there, etc... these are the settings in the video. You can push more gain from it but it starts to do this weird pulsing hiss type of thing and gets real screechy. A buffer helps with the ear stabby screech but does nothing for the hiss pulse.

    6. That's great thank you very much MKT ! I'll build it stock first (with gain log pot) and then try your mods
