A small update, the schematic was missing a 1uF coupling cap between Fuzz lug 2 and the 10k resistor that connects to the base of Q2. Layout is updated to match the updated schematic.
Built this, you can mark it verified. The only thing is that it's really kind of dark: with a 335 on the rear pickup, the Tone pot doesn't get as 'bright' as in the demo video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9dL37sh0R8
Question: Someone posted this to another site regarding the layout, and I was wondering if this layout incorporated the changes?
I watched Fran Blanche repair one of these on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wy8LSYtHXdg At 19:30 she whips out the schematic and it has two more cap than your layout. She has a 1nF from B to C on Q2 and a 1uF cap in series with the 10K that goes to Fuzz 2.
BTW, you can add the cap to your board but it requiers a small hack. Solder the cap to pot lug 2 of the the fuzz pot and solder the other end to pad 1J on the board.

ReplyDeleteTanks for verifying!
DeleteYou could reduce both 1nF caps to 470pF or so if you find it too dark.
I'll give that a try - still need to try it on bass, so it may be just fine there.

No, it wasn't but it is updated now per the latest updated schematic.
