  1. Hey hey, built but no sound :(
Without power attsched signal passed through quietly so would that indicate power?

    1. Power issue.^
Signal goes through in and out but when 9v & ground hooked up nuttin.

    2. Ok, spotted a missing cut. Updated the layout. The cut is located left to drain of Q1. Power was fed through 5,6 resistor to pin 8. Hope it works now.

  4. Build ist with 2n5458 and it works great but i don’t know the original so can not compare. Bought a BF244A but that was like 2€ and didn‘t work.

  5. It's been more than 2 years since last comment was posted but I just noticed the transistor should read DGS from top to bottom. At least that's what's shown on the data sheets.

  6. Tried building this last night, with no success: tried BF244, 2n5458 (had to twist the legs), then tried them without twisting (from top to bottom DGS, per Fleon's comment) and no sound. Is the pinout correct in the layout?

  7. if you check this : https://www.qsl.net/on7pc/datasheet/transistors/BF244A.pdf you'll see that the pinout is sgd so if the position is right on the layout it should be dgs

  8. That's what I thought, but MountBashful''s comment about it not working with a BF244 gave me pause.

  10. I also found this schematic online - https://imgur.com/a/juX39Qw

The Kit instructions also note that "To get more gain R8/C6 can be adjusted" - which would be awesome if we could ID those components to get some more drive from the circuit.

  11. using the schematic i posted i see : r8 being the 1k resistor coming from pin6 from the ic going to the electolytic cap i12,c6 is the 22uf capacitor at k6

  12. Tried building this again last night: oriented the BF244A as DGS (top to bottom) and still no sound.

  13. check your solders, bridges,,check the cuts (right place , right amount?)check your resistors and caps for the right values and use an audioprobe ? i say all this since it is verified by teddeeh almost 5 yrs ago. i have not build this one, i built the perf version but did not like the low output this circuit seems to have. i did like this one a lot https://dirtboxlayouts.blogspot.com/2024/03/hao-rustride-bass-driver.html

    1. All component values verified, cuts and link placements verified, strips knifed and checked for solder bridges. The FETs are good (tested in sockets in other builds) - and I've tried 2N5457, 2N5458 and BF244A without luck on both boards.

    2. :-( sucks man , but like i said the fx is not so rewarding if you do get it to run...the basstortion is also very nice, works 100% ( i build it works 100%)

  14. Make sure you didn’t forget the link under IC4?

    1. Yep, the double link is there...:(

    2. i checked the compnent placement around the transistor, and everything checks out , so it should work, have you checked the wiring from the board to the pots ? ( try moving around with the wires see if something happens?)

    3. Yes - the only thing I haven't done (and am about to) is swap out the volume pot, see if that works.

I did notice that when I hooked it up to my test rig, and flipped the switch from bypass to 'on' the red leds lit up - so there's some signal getting in, just not coming out. I've been hunting for my audio probe, so if I find it I'll give that a whirl.

    4. you did swap the legs around from the bf244? the order of the legs is swapped on the layout, so normally if you place a 2n5457 the order should be good , but with a bf244 you have to swap them around. make sure you find that audio probe so you can see where the signal cuts out, good luck!

    5. Yeah, I tried the Bf244 - making sure that I tested it on my Peak Atlas, ID'ed the Gate and soldered it so that Gate was on row 6 (which took some twisting). I also tried a 2N5457 with no luck.
