Lovepedal Purple Plexi

  1. Just finished this build.

Sounds great instantly. I'd say much more of a distortion than an overdrive. But that is just my opinion.

If you have it on full and turn everything up full, this one oscillates a little with a high pitched squeal, but that's easy to control.

    Great layout. Thank yoy

  2. Hi everyone. I wanted to build this one, but, same as Felipe above, I'm not sure which IC to use. I've read on tagboardeffects that this circuit is quite picky about ic model. I have a bunch of lm386n1, so I'll try those and report back any findings.

  3. I just finished the build. Fired up right away. I used lm386n1 and sounds pretty good to my ears, but I find it too bassy and a bit dark. If I replace the input cap with a lower value will it reduce bass? I'm not familiarized with this kind of circuit and really don't know where to tweak.

  4. I don't know if this should be too much bassy, but yes, you can replace the 4.7nF in the input with a smaller cap. Or you can reduce the 47uF output cap, too, I guess.
If you want a brighter sound you can reduce the other 4.7nF cap (not the input cap), this will give you more treble.
Anyway, if you feel your build sounds different from the demo on the web you should check it.

  5. It shouldn't be bass heavy really. Actually it's a little bright, especially if you used metal film resistors. I built mine using the tagboardeffects layout. It's a great high gain drive. It sounds like you might have a short somewhere so check your work.

  6. Thanks for your suggestions! I checked everything and couldn't find any problems in my build. I scratched my head for several hours until I realised what the issue was: I'm stupid hahaha. I was testing the pedal through a tweed champ clone and a v30 speaker, which is an uber bassy combo. Then I played through my katana amp, much more tight and controlled, and all that extra low end was gone. Problrm solved!

  7. This is a pretty cool one! I get the 1KC recommendation now, although I only realised the reason afterwards. The gain control is very much on/off for most of the range, then skyrockets for the last 10% of the dial!

    1. Saw a note from Lovepedal about adding a 100k resistor from input to ground in addition the gain taper change. Might be worth a go.
