Verified. Sounds really good. Tried J201 and 5457 but ended up using J113. Seemed to give it more gain to me. Great fuzz sound maxed out that cleans up well. Really appreciate everything you’re doing. Thanks!
@Chris Thank you for your help. You can tag this verified. I used J201s biased at 4.5v each. Used a 250K trimpot for one of the trims. Worked fine. Gain adds lots of volume and fizz. Sounds like a direct-into-the-board fuzz. I used linear pots for gain and tone. Makes a great preamp. I like it best with gain very low and volume up. Glad I built this one. Gonna try J113s next and maybe lower the bias a tad.
I tested two types of JFETs: the 2SK208-GR and the 2SK209-GR. When using the 2SK209-GR, I get the texture and gain similar to the YouTube demos. It sounds great! On the other hand, when using the 2KS208-GR, I get much lower gain and almost no drive. So I suspect that 2SK208R indicated on the layout is a typo for 2SK209-GR.

ReplyDeleteThis sounds good! I liked the J113 better than the 2N5457 too
Delete2 cascading boosts?
ReplyDeleteKinda looks like two Fetzer valve’s(Runoffgroove)
ReplyDeleteIm not sure i need another overdrive but I'm impressed with the symmetry of the layout. I may give this one a try this weekend. Nice work!
ReplyDeletecan another value trimpot be used in place of 100K? I have 10Ks and 250K. Thanks for help!
ReplyDelete250k would be best from those choices

All the other clones of this list the SK208-R, so maybe not. Also SK208-R has been obsolete for a while now?
ReplyDeleteOops, typo! I meant SK208-GR is obsolete, but the SK208-R is the current replacement for the earlier GR series. What ever works tho, right?😜
DeleteOh, thanks for the clarification. :)
