  1. Quick question, do you know if this supposed to work more as a distortion pedal or preamp? I’ve built JFET based circuits expecting them to sound like cranked versions of what they’re supposed to be at lower volume but they aren’t, they still need the power amp distortion to sound great (my experience). Since this is using mainly opamps do you know if it will sound similar to a cranked OTR at lower volume? I’m basing this solely on my BE-OD build.

    1. I don't know yet since I've only done one amp pedal in BAJA series; 5E3 Champ deluxe which is a very good sounding overdrive and emulates Neil Youngs ragged and piercing tone. I do prefer it on higher volumes but I can't really tell it sound worse on lower volume. I guess I need to try out one of the more modern high gainers to give you an a correct answer...

    2. Ok I just finished BAJA Splawn Quick Rod OD which is a Plexi style emulator. It sounds like a Marshall stack even at low volume.

  2. That definitely sounds promising but the Quick Rod does too. Maybe I’ll give it a shot. I’m trying to make a doom board for my Marshall Origin and it doesn’t seem to like JFET based builds. I have an OR15 that sounds great with the right pedals but I’m itching for an SG...

  3. Cool! Hopefully Bajaman will tackle Sunn Model T or Laney Supergroup soon as well.

I'm curisous about your doom board...which pedals are you planning to use? Rat, Big Muff....phaser?

Got a bad itch for an SG as well, especially after the new line that Epiphone just released,

  4. I built a lot of different pedals, the Orange is VERY picky. My favorites have been the Pharaoh, Black Forest, Hybrid Fuzzbud, Sonic Titan and Oracle. The DAM Fuzzsound, Tonebender MKII, Quantum Mystic and Hoof sound pretty good too.

The Origin sounds pretty good with most pedals but stacking works better for sludgy, doom tones. I was hoping to use this or maybe the Iguana as a base to stack into... probably with some of the dirt boxes I already built. It’s the 50 watt combo so it’s not the perfect doom/stoner rig but for home, it’ll be good enough. Two amps is taking up a lot of space and if I can get a decent doom/stoner tone out of the Marshall I may sell/trade the Orange. It’s a great amp but the Marshall is more versatile.

    Have you built the Iguana?

Also It looks like if you move the lower legs of the 1uf and 1m at the drain up one row and lower legs of the 100n and 100k at the source down one row, a J201 or other DSG pinout JFET could be used.

    1. Ha! All the pedals you mentioned is some my favorite pedals! Good taste!

Sounds like a plan to keep the Marshall if's for home use. I have a Princeton reverb for home use and thats defintely not a doom amp. On the other hand I got a Orange CR120 head at the practice space.

      Iguana is waiting for verification;-)

Yes you could swap the cap and resistor legs for the more common DSG pinout. The FET's in BAJA's circuits acts like buffers so most n-channel FET's should work.

  5. I live in a condo so space (and volume) can be issues. I use a Bugera PS-1 to tame the volume on the Marshall and a volume pot in the loop on the Orange to help with volume levels. Two amps take up some space but II doubt the Orange is going anywhere though.

Besides the correct taper of the pots and possibly the 1.5n cap I think I have what I need for the Iguana, I’ll give it a try this weekend if I do. I’ll have to order parts for the OTR.

Those new Epiphones do look nice. Are they available yet?

    1. Cool, let me know how it goes, curious about both Iguana and OTR.

Yeah, those new Epiphones is released. I'm doing my best to avoid to press "Buy" button at the moment when it comes to this: https://www.thomann.de/se/epiphone_sg_standard_alpine_white.htm
