Wasn't happy with the old unverified layout so I did a new one from scratch. Still unverified, though. Fans of Guvnor' style distortions might want to give this one a go...
You can tag this one as verified, looks like I just about beat the rush of people desperate to build it. I checked your layout against a schematic I found on a russian forum and the only difference was that the 100nF cap was 150nF, not sure what difference that makes but I went with 150nF. A gutshot showed green LEDs for clipping so I went with those too. I also added a couple of extra clipping options on a toggle switch, just because I had the bits sitting around. BA282's sound pretty good in there for more of a crunchy rhythm sound. I'd recommend a log taper for the volume pot. Overall it sounds pretty good, better than the one YouTube demo that I could find.
Here it is. I changed all the pots except the "high" to audio taper, which is a bugger because I only built this to use up a load of b500's I ordered in error 🤷🤦.

Also the drive pot needs to be above 9 o'clock for it to do anything, but then no one's building a turbo metal to use as a bluesy overdrive are they?
ReplyDeleteThey are?
ReplyDeleteHow funny - I've just cut the board and drilled the box for this today 😳

Your distortion control works much better than mine way down low.Not that it matters, the fun zone is past 12 o'clock anyway.
DeleteThanks for verifying Ian.
