Verified! The 470R resistor and the 3k3 resistor needs to be moved from row H to row G, coming off pin 2 of the IC. Really not sure what D1 and D2 are doing, but I left them there. A fun alternative to a basic tubescreamer.
Yep, 1N4148 or 1N914 are equivalent. I'm still not sure what D1 and D2 are doing, almost like a surge protector that would protect the audio circuit if DC was plugged into it?

ReplyDeleteI'd try any N channel JFET - 2N5457, 2N5458, J201, J113, etc. Just mind the pinout, you'll need to twist gate and source around.
