Sounds great, like the normal PEP, but with a good tone control. It changes the character a good amount. The fuzz control is pretty limited with that 5k resistor, but I'd keep it high anyway, thanks!
Also noted that on some models the 3rd control is labelled 'bias' not fuzz, which would serve to explain why it doesn't affect the distortion level much but alters the gate and tone
I really like this a lot more than I expected to, really great pedal. I had noise issues with my BC107s that I couldn't seem to filter out and it occurred with a DC jack or batteries. I ran lots of tests and ended up using 2N2222's - very minor difference and hard to tell. Unity is around 9 o'clock and if I crank the volume past noon I start getting those noise issues again but I never turn the knob that high.
That's a fuzzy fuzz! I tried metal can 2N2222s for both transistors and it was very velcro-y and gated. Which is fun! I seriously like a super low HFE transistor in Q1, a 2N2369 is very very nice. Still a little gated but surprisingly versatile vintage fuzz.

ReplyDeleteI just built this too. It really blasts.
ReplyDeleteI used some 330ish bc108s. I'm wondering if they're a bit high gain?
Update. I put in some 2n222s and that seems a bit less sizzling.
ReplyDeleteThank you 😊

ReplyDeleteHow would I add a bias trimmer. I can see one on fuzz dogs pcb but can not work it out
ReplyDeleteNormally I would assume that is the collector of Q2 but I think the fuzz pot on this linke to the second transistor. They added a 470k ish trimmer
ReplyDeleteI don’t suppose that layout could be added
