Exar HM-02 Heavy Metal

As many others, I thought this was just a clone or a close derivate to the Boss HM2. We couldn't be more wrong. Vitali from drunk beaver pedals opladed a schematic for it and it reveals a quite an interesting circuit. The distortion section resembles Boss DS2 with a discrete op amp and hard clipping diodes.

The 3-band eq section is fairly unique. Mid control is basically a volume control for the raw unfiltered signal. Low is built around a 3rd order Sallen key filter and the High control is driven with an active dual high pass filter not dissimilar to one of the filters found in EHX Knockout.

The layout turned out quite big with all these transistors and op amps so it is intended for a BB enclosure.

Exar BM-02 Bad Metal

 Schematic is avaiable HERE.

Exar OD-01 Overdrive

These things is getting really expensive especially since it got hyped by JHS and was included as the "XR" mode in their Bonsai pedal. It is basically a YATS/Boss-OD-1 with some value changes here and there and assymetrical soft clipping.

Exar SF-02 Super Fuzz

Another Exar box traced by Vitali from Drunk Beaver pedals. I've been curious about this one for a while. It turns out that the fuzz section are a Boss DS-1 derivate. The interesting part lies in the Eq section. The Frequency pot controls both a Big Muff tonestack (with a very deep mid scoop notch) and an active bandpass filter. The Equilize control pans between both filters...

It came out quite big but it will fit in 125b box if mounted sideways.

Exar MM-04 Moon Metal

Based on Marshall Shredmaster but lots of tweaked values and a few addons along the signal path. So it might have its own thing soundwise...

Schematic is avaiable HERE.

Exar OD-02 Overdrive

Cool looking soft clipping overdrive using a discrete op amp setup.

Schematic is avaiable HERE.

Exar MT-1 Metal

Might be something for the HM-2 fans? The gyrator frequiencies and Q's looks promising...

Exar DS-02 Distortion

 Schematic is avaiable HERE.

Exar HR-03 Hammer

An old polish distortion which is based on Ibanez Trash Metal. Which is basically a  buffered and boosted Rat circuit with an additional fixed gyrator EQ stage after the distortion circuit.
