Oh, I had no idea PedalPCB's board had noise issues. I know an earlier layout that I did had some squeal problems so I decided to draw a new one from scratch to see if the noise could be tamed. I haven't tried it myself but people have reported that a small buffer daughterboard infront cured the worst noise....
Yeah, I'll eventually start up a request section soon and thanks for the the heads up on the J FET Wampler circuits. I'll definitely look up those.
I think that the layout, in some distortion circuit, has a important part about oscillation issue. I had built twice a Rat with multi-clippping option on veroboard with any issue. Once I decided to build a stock version on a different layout, but I got a bad oscillation in some settings. So I taken out the components and used them on a multi-clipping layout but just with one clipping option and it worked ok.
With your G3 layout did you use shielded wire for input and output jacks? Is it into the box?
Yes I've experienced the same issue with some Rat layouts. It seems that the trick is to avoid having signals crossin each other or have them a few strips in between. It is easier said than done when it comes to larger and more complex circuits like Revv. It is almost impossible get an optimal layout on stripboard (regarding noise)but you can at least try to draw the the layout to keep the noise at minimum.
No shielded cables in my build and it is not boxed yet. Had to choose between this and Revv 4 for housing and I prefered the latter.
Ok. It might be good try to make the G3 work into the box, but I understand if you don't want to mess up with your builts. :)
I don't remember if somebody tried to add the extra stage of the G3 on a verified G4 layout. It's not the more neat solution, indeed I don't like to add extra board, like the buffer in front. But, if it is the only way to make the pedal work fine... ok.

Because it matches the schematic Bugg posted at PedalPCB which is traced by himself from a real Revv 3. Remember that a vero layout is more likely to cause noise (especially in high part coounts and high gain circuits) than a well made multi layer PCB layout. It is simply the naure of the beast. As Eliah Bailey said, shielded cables might help as well as shielding from the box.
Or you could draw an own PCB layout to completely reduce the noise but it is over my paygrade and not what I'm really into.
Hello, ARONDIY. If you are saying that 22nF and 4k7 are inverted I guess it doesn't make any difference. But if you are building it I think you can try to put some sockets and see what really happen if you invert it.
that's what I meant :) it made a difference to me, the signal flowed better. Before it seemed that there was a noise gate killing the signal. sorry, i'm using google translator.

I omitted both the diodes and the led, as the saturation seemed more natural and harmonic to mee.This also applies to G2 and G4. I confirm the use of ic1-TL062,ic2-TL072, ic3-tl2074.I did not find it'hissing or screeching and i did not use shielded cables.
Ok, thanks! No oscillation? You could be one of the few lucky. Unless you're using it after a buffer. Because it helps to solve this issue that some high gain distortion DIY has.
Hi Elijah.Even with maximum gain i have no oscillation and no buffer use.I think this is due to the use of TL062 and TL2074,which by reducing the signal a little,make, in my opinion,more pleasant the distortion without oscillation and with low noise.
figured id throw my 2 cents in the pile having just built one...
i used tl072s and a tl074 from tayda with no problems, built as layout shown with no modification required.
i had no noise/oscillation/squeal issues with this layout. didnt even try shielded cable. having dealt with those issues in the past on similar high gain pre-amp/distortion pedals, such as a BE-OD or VH4, i have learned that keeping wire-length to a minimum can help with such issues. im guessing thats what saved me if others are indeed experiencing those issues with this layout.

Sickest distortion pedal I've played thru. Thank you for the layout, oscillated like crazy, but nothing a buffer can't solve. Also used lm324, but I don't think it would make a big difference.
Ok. Did you play with it stand alone? Or it's in the pedalboard in front of some buffered pedal? Does the buffer place outside of the pedal? If it was inside and now you took out maybe the position of the wires made the difference?
Mostly been playing through it "standalone", I haven't even boxed it up yet as I wanna try it with higher voltages. Placed the buffer before the revv. I tried 2 buffers: JHS Lil black buffer, second one is just a basic JFET buffer from fxlayouts, anyways they both seem to work fine as of now. Yeah, maybe the position of the wires meant something.
This circuit really is something. It has more than enough of everything without becoming overly fizzy. Very appropriate for a sort of modern version of that 80's Thrash thing. At least that's what I hear. I would love another high gain suggestion if anyone has one. Any suggestions for something equally crunchy but with a bit more "character" while retaining the amp-like character????

Hey guys, I just finished this and mine doesn't work. I used an audio probe and found that ic2 is acting very weird. The LEDs don't light up, there's continuity between 9v and pins 5,6,7 and 8 (pin 8 is supposed to be 9v so that's not a problem), the signal coming out of pin 1 is very noisy and right after the 4.7k resistor it is connected to the signal is very weak almost inaudible. There is also continuity between 9v and pin 7 of IC1. Can anyone help me out? Here are the voltages of the ics: IC1: 1: 4.6v 8: 8.7v 2: 4.6v 7: 4.4v 3: 2.9v 6: 3.8v 4: 0 5: 4.2v
When I can't get something to work I've learned to push it aside and look at it with fresh eyes. Usually it's a misplaced lead somewhere. The layout does work. It's a pretty big one. If you can post a pic maybe I can find it.

Just finished and it quiter than Friedman BE-OD and Dirty Shirley but it is still some squeal with Treble, Mid and Volume knobs turned clockwise.
