I opted for a layout for the stock circuit without the three additional Deadend Fx controls. Note that there is some intended noise is coming through with the Gain pot is dimed which is perfectly normal, it a part of the design.
Schematic is avaiable HERE.
Oooo, now thats a nice sounding pedal!!!
ReplyDeletei don't have appropriate 2222s (mine are all like 250 hfe), buuuuut it seems to be working more or less as intended so i think it's safe to tag this one!
ReplyDeletegot my hands on some 2222s with proper gain and it sounds exactly like the demos i've seen now. worth the few extra bucks to get proper transistors imo.
DeleteI have an original and I love it! Btw once I opened it: transistors used by Lastgasp (on almost every pedal they do) are the standard japanese 2SC1815.
ReplyDeleteI also suggest to re-draw the layout with the octave balance pot: that's inside the orginal pedal as a trim pot (and it helps a lot to tune the noise range when the fuzz/gain knob is maxed)!
Only the pre and post clipping pots were additional features by Deadend.
Hi can you post gutshots or schematic on how octave pot is wired?

Deleteif you click on the link above, it will take you to the DeadEndFX schematic for their Shilelagh project - trimpot 2 (a 10k value) is listed on the build doc as "Octave Balance" - leg 1 of the trimpot goes to a 22k (R20) resistor, which connects to the base of Q2, leg 2 of the trimpot goes to ground, and leg 3 goes to a 22k (R23) resistor which connects to the base of Q3.
DeleteOh thanks I didn't looked at the schematic at the time of replying. Seems there is a way to add for Q3 at the bottom by cutting two sides but Q2 resistor is directly going to ground. Maybe I would just lift Q2 22k resistor and connect over the board with trimpot and Q3 22k resistor.
DeleteThe "octave balance trim" has the same array as the "octave trim" found on older Univox Superfuzz schematics.
DeleteI built this pedal and it rips!! Used 2SC1815-GR for Q2/Q3 without matching gain and get lucky. I fell in love with mid scooped sound. Did the original used 2SC1815-GR for Q1? I went with standard 2N3904 but still curious.
ReplyDeleteIn my original 46 Sooperfuzz all transistors are 2SC1815 ;)
