Maestro MFZT-1 Fuzztain

Per request. A slightly modernized take on a Moog designed Fuzz/compressor hailing back from the 70s. The signal path remains true to the original but the rotary switch has been removed in favour for a variable fuzz control. And the two compressor settings is now fed through a toggle switch. The CD4007AE IC might be hard to source but it is avaiable at Ebay.

Schematic is avaiable HERE.

  1. is the CD4007AT necessary (very hard to find) or will a UBE and others work as well?

    1. Per the folks at Electronic Audio Experiments that posted the schematic Anders drew this from, the 4007AE is crucial and a more common UBE won't do it. I ordered some from a couple different sellers on Ebay - one in the UK and one in Greece. Because, as EAE also stated, the circuit is "finicky" even with the proper chip and it is best to try a few different ones.

  2. Minor edit, Anders - it's 28x29 on the board size - hopefully my only one! fingers X'd

  3. Has anyone actually built this and can confirm it works. I built it and went through it with a fine-tooth comb and cannot get it to work at all.

    1. Hey James - I tried multiple times to get this one to fire up and could not. Whether it is an error in the schematic or my CD4007AE, I was unable to get this one to work and abandoned it.

    2. Hey everyone - Electronic Audio Experiments just a couple of weeks ago released a DIY PCB of a modified Maestro Fuzztain circuit that will work with a standard CD4007UBE - just got one, gonna build it, then try to work up a strip drawing for the schematic, unless of course, Anders beats me to it!
