  1. Hello, fuzzhead!

Can you post a schematic of mods? I am very interested about the "Lows Ctrl".

    Thank you!

  2. Thank you, fuzzhead!
I've looked at this schematic, but I can't see any lows pot :)

    1. Ah, I see.
I added the Lows control mod since original circuit can be quite dark. The Low control pot is located between R14(68k) and pin 5 of IC2b. I haven't tried it myself but it is a recommended mod from a DIY forum.

  3. Thank you, fuzzhead! I will try tomorrow. I had a clone of it, but using other layout.

  4. is this comparable to the MXR El Grande Bass Fuzz? If not , I have what I believe is the schematic if you take requests.

    1. Found the schematic El Grande Bass Fuzz. Not sure about it though, maybe a slithly modified layout since there is a bunch of capacitors in parallel, a transistor array piggbacked with discrete transistors...quite messy.
But I will give it a shot sooner or later.

  5. I see. This is probably why someone hasn't done it layout already. Thank you for the explanation.

  6. Mr. Fuzzhead. I have found a pcb layout / Drawing that could possibly simplify the layout. I dont know much so I dont know how hard it would be to convert to stripboard. I found it here. https://app.box.com/s/30jfjuk1i4 I have been working with someone on the other forum and he has come up with a layout that sounds pretty good but Im not sure how close to acurate it is. His layout also has the IC on a daughter board so its kina big. if you could take a look I would be most greatful.
    Thanks
    Matt

    1. I got a layout finished for El Grande based on the PDF file you linked to with all parts on one board, it meassures 22x26.There is few things that is modified though. original had a 2n3904 transistor array but the layout have pads formal transistors but if you want to get close to an array you can match them.Freq trimpot has has the option for iether an internal trimpot or an panel pounted pot. Freq switch is on the outside, no internal DIP switch. Not sure how effective it is or what it is doing....
      .
But there is one thing that holds me back abit about this one. Some of the coupling and clipping caps says 100nF/1uF. Original have SMD caps so it is impossible to identify the real values unless someone meassures them. I guess putting in sockets is the way to go....

  8. I am not experienced at this very much. There is a post in the other blog forum under requests that Elijah has been creating a layout. My understanding of the 100nF and 1uF caps is that they run in parallel for reasons unknown to me. Here is a quote from FX-Fidden (Elijah) taken from the post
“ The last thing about the schematic I deliberately left out is that the three 1uF in the El Grande schematic have in parallel a 100nF cap, getting 1.1uF, increasing the bass, but I think the difference is really small. It's more easier add a 100nF cap only close the 1uF between Q2 and Q6, if you want. It's more complicated (but not totally impossible) to make the same with 1uF close Q3. Almost impossibile with the 1uF output cap.“
I don’t know if this helps. I am sorry to clutter up the comment section of the above layout, I don’t know of any others way to send you messages. As always a great big THANK YOU for all you do for us.

    1. No worries, man.:-)
I'll upload the layout tonight, we can keep discussion this in that thread.

Ok, so it is 1uF and 100nF in parallel? Don't think there is an audible difference between 1uF and 1,1uF in a big muyff so I'll stick with 1uF caps mainly to keep the board reasonable compact...

  9. Hi fuzz head, I've built your layout, but I have some issues with it, the out put level it's too low, I can barely hear the distortion.
I'm not sure if I wired correctly everything, but I couldn't reach to fix the problem, I'm going to attempt fixing it.
    Hope it works
