Here is another trace by evilarsen; Fuzzlord Drone Master.
It is essentially a tweaked Rat with a diode selector switch, a switchable twin T notch filter for a mid scoop a la Superfuzz, and an op amp output buffer.
There is two versions for this (2019 and 2020) and since they differ quite a bit when it comes to some of the component values. The internal trimpot that sets the depth of the mid scoop was only present in some earlier versions but I decided to include it here since it seems to be an useful feature.
Bear in mind that there is quite a volume drop when the switches is in silicon and Scoop mode.

Fuzzhead, evilarsen. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteMade me busy and stay sane. Thanks!
Thanks!
DeleteJust make sure to use the latest updated layouts. There was a link missing under the trimpot...
Of course. This section look good?

Sorry, not hijack veroboarder. I do both vero and perf. Where you guys get thick vero?
Hello everyone, you can tag it Fuzzhead, the layout works perfectly.

I build the 2020 version.
Thanks Richard.
DeleteTagged.
Maybe the volume pot is a B100K. i play alway on the last third. But it doesn't matter verywell.
ReplyDeleteHi! Could you please share the schematics? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteSchematic added!
DeleteHowdy all, works as it should but I get a low rumble/ticking sound when the gain is maxed. Using the 2020 version with the op07. Still a bit of a newbie so any help is appreciated. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteFixed...Upped the 30pf to 50pf. Works beautifully now!
DeleteThis is a killer Rat. Put it together a few days ago. I guess it's just stock but with an opamp buffer rather than the standard JFET. The clipping and tonal options sound pretty cool. Much warmer than a stock Rat. It reminds me of Anders' Dronestortion, but this is less insane. Was this your inspiration? Maybe. Love it. Thanks meng.
ReplyDeleteA boost not a buffer, I always mix those up.
DeleteYeah, this one was sort of an inspiration to Dronestortion. But this one wasn't traced at the time so it was inspired by the product description...
DeleteThe main differencies are the passive superfuzz notch filter for Drone Master vs the Boss FZ2 active filters for the Dronestortion. And the Dronestortion has more gain and higher noise floor...
I guess... In the 2020 version... Clip switch, spst should be "on-on"... Right???
ReplyDeleteGave this a go but somethings not quite right. Lots of noise turning into oscillations at full gain. I didn't have the 22 cap and 22 trim, so I used 47 if cap and 50K trim. That didn't work to well, so then I used 10uf cap and 10K trim. A little better but it's still off. Might just try getting those correct values and rebuild the entire thing...
ReplyDeleteHmm...upon reflection i think I might have been using the schematics from somewhere else because what I said makes no sense at all in relation to these ones...
