Andy at the most excellent layout and resource blog Vero & Point-2-Point Layouts traced this interesting tonebender variant a few months ago. It is a tweaked Tonebender Mk. III/IV with an input cap blend control and a Big Muff tonestack with odd values. Schematic and tracing jornal is avaiable HERE.
*EDIT 220429* Andy discovered a mistake in the trace regarding the function of the Balance control. Layout is updated. LINK
That’s very kind of you - thank you Anders.
ReplyDeleteThank you to both of you for all you do for us.
ReplyDeleteHoly shit Anders, this thing is amazing - better that a Tonebender!!! I used OC42's for all three transistors (hfe 80-100), its not picky like the Tonebender I & II. Just sounds fantastic, well and truly verified my friend!!
ReplyDeleteThank Ian! I will tag it.
DeleteSo, you are about to jump into the germanium rabbit hole, eh? :-)
I made your Box of Germanium and Mammoth Bender a while back - love them both very much
ReplyDeleteBy the way Anders, I jumpered the 220K resistor between tone 1 and Q3 collector for more volume
ReplyDeleteHello - I have my doubts about the input blend after taking a better look at some more photos. The rest should be fine, but a tad confused about what’s happening at the input stage now. Still works, but perhaps isn’t the same as the FS-77
ReplyDeleteI got hold of some photos from someone that owns a FS-77 - I was definitely wrong about the input blend. While the circuit works, it's not the FS-77.
DeleteThanks Andy! The corrected Balance control looks like it would make it much more versitale.
