2N5089s is a higher gain version 2N5088s. Maybe you could meassure your 2N5088s and use the ones with the highest hfe for Q6 through Q8? Or try MSPA18s if you have any?
Hey fuzzhead... I was wondering if you'd be interested in doing this... i figured it be a nice addition to anyone who wants a TB MKII & Mk1.5 in 1... IMO keep the bias as a trimmer and get rid of the fat switch lol... https://www.tdpri.com/data/attachments/209/209464-1905d04d97e136142fd3ffa842c67689.jpg
Just finished, awesome effect! Its almost like trem mixed with light vibrato. I only had a 500k dual gang there's a lot of dead space but the suggested 10k would probably work perfect. Also both pots work reverse but that's an easy fix. Otherwise works perfectly, thanks for the layout!
Yeah, if it isn't listed, just leave it disconnected. I built one of these some time ago. You'll need to spend some time tweaking the trim pots to get the proper effect but it's a nice trem.
Thank you Tom, i Ve never wired a footswich like that... however... another question, does the rate led needs a control resistor? Or it is already into the board? Sorry for my poor English and my "stupid" questions
Your English is fine. And it isn't a stupid question. The 2.2k near the LED+ connection is your CLR. So no you don't add one. The switch wiring was created by BYOC and I think it helps to avoid switch pop. Also, if you read the comments above, make sure you're connecting the LED when testing or the effect won't work.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but the collector voltages for Q5–8 should all be inconstant since they're part of the LFO circuit. In mine, Q5 is between 3–6V, Q6 is 5–8V, Q7 is 3–7mV, and Q8 is 5–8mV. All very approximate, but they all move.
I had the same problem initially in my build, but that's because I misplaced a couple of legs in that forest of capacitors. I'd double check that everything's in the right place; it's *really* easy to mess up that part of this circuit.
Really nice Tremolo circuit. Is there a way to modify it to make the wave „flatter“? To get the typical „vibey“ harmonic tremolo effect I need to turn up the depth-knob high, but than the Tremolo gets too choppy. Is it possible to smooth that out with an additional pot or change of cap value to make it sound more subtle like for example the Flint?
Works great! Thanks for this! Been trying to get a Cardinal Trem working forever, but this one sounds amazing, and doesn't use vactrols... And it works lol
I might try this one tonight! would i be fine to sub 2n3904s for the 2n5089s?

ReplyDeleteTHAT WAS QUICK! THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!

ReplyDeleteAlso forgot to mention, I was getting no effect during troubleshooting until I hooked an LED up
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Will reverse the pot labels as soon as I can (...no lug numbering in the scheme). And good info on the LED.
DeleteI'll tag it right away.
Lug numberings is now corrected.
DeleteShould I leave the lug 3 of the footswich unconnected?

DeleteI'm not getting any wiggle in the LFO. Would somebody mind sharing voltages for Q5-8

I think I had to use slightly higher gain 2n5088's in mine, around 450+ hfe if i remember. Worth a try
