Out of interest did you find this to be gainy right from the start of the gain knob? I just finished it and it sounds great, but pretty hot from the off. Cheers, Ben.
I've had a little time off so I've had some extra build time this week. These BAJA preamps are excellentt. This one sounds great with a treble booster. So did the HIWATT DR103. One of my first projects was a Rangemaster kit from Small Bear. It loves these circuits.
I used a Log taper for the Gain pot and the layout is 19X23, not 19X24. Thanks!
can't find ground?
ReplyDeleteThanks for catching that. Updated.
DeleteVerified! Sounds awesome, added a ROG omega trebleboost in the box with it, its a great combo.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Just tagged it. And thanks for mentioning ROG Omega. Will whip up a layout for that one...
DeleteNo worries. The Omega is a really useful Treblebooster, I put the bias trimmer on an external pot instead as stated in their writeup:
Delete"7V proved to be faithful to the Rangemaster tones, while a lower drain voltage in the range of 4.5 to 5V was somewhat better for the fat sounds."
