ZVex Mastotron

  1. Built this and everything works great except for the sub switch. Position 1 and 2 work but not 3. I get extreme sub or no sub. I have checked all the usual suspects. No solder bridges, wiring seems correct. I can’t figure it out for the life of me. Any ideas on where to look.

    1. Hi there! It seems that I forgot to update the layout. Tone 2 and Tone 3 board connections needs to be swapped.

    2. Hello, just wondering if you updated the layout with the connections swapped? I'm planning on diving into this one

  4. I’m fairly new at this. Can you tell me which components are involved in the sub switch. Looks like the 68nf, 33nf and 100 uf? Maybe one is bad?

    1. Yes, it is possible that components goes bad. The caps you mentioned is connected to the switch indeed, as well as the tone control.

  6. So I'm not a bass player but I've gone and bought a bass. Anyone got any suggestions for some pedals; vintage, fuzz and octave. Cheers

    1. The DOD Carcosa is probably my favourite bass fuzz - super flexible. Ampeg Sub-Blaster is also great fun, especially after a fuzz. Also! The Bajaman SVT preamp is absolutely worth the massive pain of building it. Just socket the diodes, because you may find that they clip everything too quickly & harshly.

    2. I like a Companion on bass more than guitar. I personally love chorus on bass; Clone Theory for Peter Hook stuff. The Dam Ezekiel is a nice bass drive, and so is the Blackstone imo.

    3. Cheers fellas, played for hours last night - this is a lot more fun than I thought it would be. Can't wait to get some pedals on the go.

    4. If you can rationalize the cost on the power converter, I can't recommend the Aion/Traynor TS-50b preamp, Ian. If you look for the drawing that I did that is attached to the original post here, mine is verified and it sounds gigantic!!!

  8. Colorsound Bass Fuzz is recommended, it’s like a lower tuned Supa Tonebender?

  9. I meant to say Jumbo Tonebender not Supa Tonebender?
