Spaceman Effects Titan II

  1. Hello! First of all thank you so much for taking the time and effort to make these layouts available, I already found so many that I want to try. This was my first build from this site, with great results! Great fat Fuzz, with really nice volume cleanup and usable Tone control.
I used a B1K pot for Fuzz and some randomn 2n2222s. I have some oscillation squeal when fuzz is above 50%, but otherwise works fine. Probably using the correct fuzz pot would reduce the squealing (or at least limit it to above 80% rotation - as described in other foruns), as well as measuring the hFe of the transistors to the recommended values.
Anyways, thanks once again, and keep up the great work!

    1. Thanks for your kind words.:-)
Yes, this circuit have some noise issues with the fuzz control after 12 o clock.
I am planning to do another layout for it with some extra power filtering and with the input and output signals as far as far away from each other as possible. Hopefully it can solve or at least reduce the noise.

  2. Yeah, that sounds interesting and I will try that, thanks. A buffered pedal in front of the Titan cures the squealing, but it also affects negatively the tone of the pedal.

  3. And soo, I rebuilt this using MPSA06 as Q1, Pn2222a's as Q2 and Q3. Used correct pots this time. I added a 100nF capacitor paralel to 100uF for power filtering and it works like a charm. I replaced the 100pF to 200pF. Sounds great only have noise at max fuzz pot, and not as bad as before. Sounds just like demos :)

    1. Thanks for the tip! Going to tackle this one today.

    2. Very cool fuzz, this. Upping the 100pF cap to 220pF tamed some noise with the controls maxed out. Will try a some higher values and transistors with less gain since there is still some fizz happening.

  4. Also buid this one. Well, no doubt one of the coolest fuzzes arround. Got fizz with BC338-25, 2n3904 and BC556A. Then almost no fizz with 2N2222A. In a specific order, no fizz at all. And with the 100 pF cap. Tomorrow I'll measure the transistor's hfe and try to understand how the proper order works.

  5. Back there, I mean BC546A, obviously. Fucking typo...

  6. 190 hf on Q1, 220 on Q2, 223 on Q3, just fizzing at the all end of he pot. It is a 2K2 pot.
Tried a lot of other options. Then I throw a small black glass tran, from a very old radio (arround 20 hF)on Q1, BC549B on Q2 and Q3 (to compensate), and no Fizz at all. But for you, heavy fuzz lovers, might not be the coup of tea. It roars more on the Rat territory. For me, I love it! Absolutely gorgeus! Crystal Dirt, with all the pots way up.

  7. Did anyone ever figure out how to mitigate the oscillation with the fuzz pot greater than 50%?

    1. I guess you need to use the transistors that doesn't squeal. Stock transistors remains unknown (sanded), so following the tips in the posts above should help you on the right track. Also, it is worth trying a higher values for the 100pF cap.
