Thanks for posting! I wanted to ask is you use DIYLC to make the layouts. Also if you use it where can I download the library of skins you use because the symbols are diferent than I usually see. I want to help the blog by submiting some layouts Thanks :)
i don't think there are skins but i'm sure fuzzhead uses diylc for the layouts. maybe check which version you have ? ( newer version has maybe more options?)
There's actually a write up about that in the Aion build doc. The Midfi Demo Tape is a "soundalike" that mimics a gained-out Tascam channel strip. So some circuit similarities are unavoidable, of course. But this is almost a 1-to-1 copy of the actual channel strip from a Tascam 4 track. Since I've built a couple demo tape fuzzes, I'm now going to have to do this one, too! Also, I believe NJGTR just verified it!!!
Please tag! If you get a hold of the original Tasman schematic, it really is the same preamp circuit. I’m not sure, though, why Aion went with a dual op amp for IC1. I’ve got a TL072 in IC1 and a JRC4558 in IC2. I will try some others. The break up is like an overdriven mixer input, but not very compressed as in tape distortion. I also just finished the Hudson Broadcast, which is very nice! Thank you Anders!
At the top of page 35 you can see the preamp schematic. It appears to be identical to the Aion schematic. I am not sure of the voltage in the original though.

DeleteYea, it’s pretty much verbatim except that 10k trim which they subbed for a 10kc & made it the input control?
DeleteThe 80’s Fostex 4 tracks would clip in the same fashion, more on the lower models.
