Just built this one as a rainy Saturday project. Works like a charm without any trouble shooting required 😀
It sounds pretty good on a guitar, but really comes to life with a bass guitar. Just watch the low control, when it's set high it can distort a bit.
That's not a bad thing.
I also put a few other project circuits before it to see how it handles fuzz.
Zvex machine : I honestly don't think anything will make that circuit sound good.
Hagerman Metal : ooooh yeah, you can get some awesome grunge, doom and stoner sounds.
Dunwich Fuzz Throne : the one thing I always thought this awesome circuit lacked was a decent tone control. Adding the tone capsule makes an already great fuzz even better. I'm boxing them together as I write this.
Hi Fuzzhead! I too have just finished this circuit, which sounds great, except that I get nothing from the hi-mid control. After looking over the schematic, as I correct in assuming that, on the stripboard layout, the order of "Hi Mid" lugs from top to bottom should be 1-2-3? Thanks a million and Merry, Merry!!
Hello. Could you help me?. The red pads on the board are to connect the cables? What does the CRL component mean? First time building on a veroboard. Regards
The CLR is there for your indicator LED. The higher the value the dimmer the light. I'd say 2.2k or so is typical. If you want it dimmer use a slightly higher value like a 4.7k for example.
PCB layout in case someone need it, I have to test it but checked twice. Cheers! https://selftaughtcreativity.wordpress.com/2024/07/11/bass-preamp-inspired-by-dg-tone-capsule/

ReplyDeleteFigured it out. The order from top to bottom is 3-2-1.
