Pedro (WTFiCanBuildMyOwnPedals) came up with this distortion/overdrive a while ago. It takes elements from both DOD250 and Boss DS1 but it has its own thing going on. A bit less gain than a DS1 and cap values in the signal path is adjusted. The hard clipping diodes are a LED and a silicon diode for assymetric clipping
This one is verified by Pedro.
I had to flip the orientation of D2 to get the clipping to engage. I think the circuit sounds pretty good! I like it's overall vibe. Although, at the lowest gain settings the distortion can be a little "splatty" sounding (and not in a good way). It may just be my build though.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like it:) And yeah, one of the diodes needs to be flipped, a bad verification from my part!
ReplyDeleteI built 2 of these and at lowest gain settings I get "cleanish boost", splatiness might come from opamp choice maybe.
Also if you're into weird glitchy noisy fuzzes, you should experiment placing a B50K pot between Q1 Emmiter and Volume 3
Well spotted. D1 is now flipped.
DeleteBuilt this tonight. It's a pretty cool circuit. I tried several other opamps and to me, the 4558 sounds best. I need to mess around with some other clipping diodes but I like it as is! Got a schematic for this?
