Mid-Fi Electronics Pitch Pirate

Schematic from the creator himself is avaiable at FSB.

  1. Just had my first attempt at this, everything seemed to be working fine. The depth, blend and wave all seem fine, but the speed control doesn't seem to do anything. The LED ( both rate led and LFO led) remain steadily on.

I'm getting a modulation/slight delay, but not the crazy pitch bending.

    1. Thanks for giving it a go. I'll take a look at it tomorrow.

    2. Spotted the error righe to IC3. The cut at E9 needs to be moved to E10. The link between C10 and E10 needs to be removed. The link must connect to pin 7 of IC3 and row C. I know, not an dead easy fix due the liminited space...
      Sorry for the hassle:-/

Layout is updated but I had to shift a few components around...

  2. r14 (10k) goes to 9v +, it should go down one row (j2) I think :)

    1. R14 is the 10k three row resistor at column 9 and it goes to 9v. The resistor you mentioned is R13 and goes to ground. These are voltage dividers (for Vref) for IC3 and both pin 3 and 6 is attached to it.

  3. Thanks for the update Fuzzhead. I'll have a go at this again over the weekend 😄

  4. Got this one up and running! Works like a charm. Has a lot of great sounds in here ranging from a mild modulated vibe/chorus to some pretty wild pitches.

The only slight detractor is that there is a slight about of noise as the LED cycles. This is only minor and I've certainly built circuits with higher noise levels.

For the LED, I tried most colours, including pink. But I found the best one is a diffused green LED. I also for some strange reason tried a fast flashing RGB LED, which actually sounded pretty trippy as it flashed and cycled through the colours.

I was torn between the two, so put them both on a DPDT switch so I could swap, added some more sounds to the circuit which I kinda liked.

Thanks Fuzzhead, I love these PT2399 modulation circuits!!

    1. Perfect! I'll tag as soon as I can. Very cool LED mod you did, need to order some RGBs then!

Another, yet a bit more simple PT2399 circuit I would like to build would be Memory Loss by Seppuku Fx. There is a VERY messy schematic and a BOM avaiable but I'm not sure if I can make anything out of it...

    2. As a PT2399head, I think this would be wonderful :-)

    3. Got the memory Loss layout done. Will upload it later today. But since the schematic isn't the easiest one to read some "trial and error" might be nessecary to get it working as it should. Lug numbering for the pots is backwards in the scheme and most of the pots have question marks next to the values. Also, the Filter switch appears to act like a feedback switch for the LM386...

  5. To be expected with some Seppuku designs!

Is it this version? I know there are a few variants.

    1. No, it is the 4 knob / 1 switch version. And I think the switch is a push button moemntary swith. Hard to tell...

    2. Yeah, a lot of mystery behind Seppuku. I think that switch may have been brought over from Kompact Kassette but not sure!

  6. Yellow diffused sounds best to me. I then replaced the 10k resistor connected to the + led with a 25k trim pot. Acts as an overall brightness control to find your sweet spot. A green led is less noisy and more subtle but this circuit isn’t really about subtle. Use the controls to find a more conservative setting or sea sick rainbow vomit. Thanks for the layout!!!

  7. I had my first attempt on it this weekend. The led cycles ok, responding to the pots, but I got no sound from it (except from noise as the led cycles). I know it's probably something with my assembly, but does anyone has tension values for the IC's? That would be a great info for troubleshooting! Thank you in advance!

  8. I built and everything works as it should. I had problems with ticking and added the mark hammer mod, ie I removed the 9v link to the ic3 and added a 100r resistor to feed and a 100uf capacitor going from it to gnd and ticking stopped.

  9. Log pots works better for the depth control.

  10. The modifications that Marcello listed above work very well. It doesn't eliminate the noise completely. It's still a little noisy into a high gain device but it is greatly improved. I pulled the link to pin 8 of IC3 and stuck the 100r under the socket. I placed the 100uf cap between B6 & C6 (+ side pointing downward). The depth control mod will also be useful as most of the less crazy stuff is almost at the full CCW side of the sweep. thnx
