Pladask Elektrisk Odd Amplitude Modulator / Noise Synth

A liitle noise thingy designed by Knutolai at Pladask Elektrisk. A ring modulator based som Tim Escobedos Thing Modulator with Starve control, hard clipping diodes, cross over distortion diodes and a feedback switch...somethhing to keep the neighbours happy.

  1. Tag it. Noisey, tremolo in certain settings. Pretty fun and quick build.

  2. Built it. It sounds...um...well it makes sounds.
Most settings have lots of noise when not playing. It almost always occasionally plays the correct notes most of the sometimes. I found a setting that gave a sad little pitch drop when holding notes, which was...different. There are some synthy 8-bitty sweet spots and theres some tremolo in there somewhere. I wouldnt say its much of a a musical pedal but its definately a fun one to play around with if you have an afternoon free and really dont like your neighbours.

    1. Ive found a fun mod if anyone fancys making this a bit weirder.
From 9v add a 1k resistor to positive leg of an led (i used pink, havnt tried any other yet) then stick the positive leg to another spst lug1 and lug2 to pin 6 of the IC.
This gives you some more super annoying noisey goodness BUUUUT.... also has some useable fuzz tones in there! I even found a setting that sounds almost like a splattery auto wah!

    3. Did you use the 'standard' lm567 or the lmc567 which escobedo's thing modukator is based on?

  4. So heres a couple of demos. The first video is the circuit almost standard, and the second is with the mod stated above.

I added 2 momentary switches, one from the center pin of the feedback switch to ground(stutter) and one to pin 6 of the IC(noise) and a 'glitch' switch to activate the mod in my previous comment.

In original circuit mode(glitch mode) its very much a noise pedal as you can hear in the video. Lots of fun to be had. Robotic chirpy birds to video game bleeps and bloops to murder victim-esque screaming, written letters of complaint, significant others slamming doors etc, all without even touching the guitar. It also has some noisy ticky tremolo that can be silenced between playing using the stutter button. In this mode the stutter button sometimes kills the signal but sometimes creates more/different annoying/fun noises. The noise button does what it wants to. I think its depends on the weather, or the season, or the alignment of jupiter and saturn? I honestly have no idea.

With the 'Glitch' switch OFF (mod activated) the noise is removed from the vast majority of settings settings(with the frequency counter clockwise it goes haywire again) your left with a whole range of overdrives, fuzzes and distortions depending on which channel is selected and where the frequency and starve(voltage) controls are set. It really becomes a super duper versitile fuzzstortiondrive! In this mode the stutter button kills the signal and the noise button kills the signal in a noisey way.

This noisey little shit does so many things, that both settings were real difficult to know what to demo. so its just noodling and knob twiddling. Enjoy!
