You can verify this one, just built it, Honestly with a name like BOOMSTICK I was expecting a lot more BOOM haha, tried a bunch of different transistors and can say that the recommended ones sound the best. This is a really awesome lower gain crunchy sounding fuzz, its not full out doom fuzz and think maybe adding a boost to it may really make it scream, Totally worth the couple hours it took to knock it out and I will for sure find a place for it on my board! Thank you guys for providing us with such awesome layouts! Trevor
Thanks for the build report. Yeah, i'm with you on this one. Expected a heavy wall of fuzz but turned out to be a nice crunchy, dirty fuzz. Haven't tried mine with a booster up front but it surely sounds like a good idea.
This was my first build in about four or five months. I built this one up yesterday and plugged into a fairly dirty Orange OR15 it was a monster. A lot of background noise as would be expected with the pedal volume up through a dirty amp but just evil sounding. It sounds OK through my Marshall Origin 50 combo, a bit underwhelming though, I need to crank the pedal volume to get it fuzzy, otherwise it’s almost a dirty booster. Thanks for the great layout.
I was in the same boat as you, was quite underwhelmed at first Before I tried it with different amps. Then it sprung to Life. i was thinking about trying to squeeze out more gain out of it....I suppose the 51k resistor to the left is the one to tinker with, 100k might work.
It’s funny how picky pedals and amps are. All I had was the OR for years and built a lot of dirt boxes that just sounded horribly through it. Last year I picked up the Origin 50 figuring that I could build anything and it would sound good, was I ever wrong with this being a perfect example. I can build amp-in-a-box type stuff and Muffs that sound great but the Doom Stick and my Fuzz Face types love being in front of something dirty.
Thanks been looking for this one
ReplyDeleteThanks.

DeleteYou're welcome, yeah I expected a bit more, still has its place though!

ReplyDeleteUh, I love it! Very doomy, but also gets cleaned up with a TS in front!
ReplyDeleteHonestly was not as dooming as I thought it would be. Sounds pretty crunchy, but not nearly as wall of fuzz as I expected
ReplyDeleteAnybody know what the difference between the two versions?
