Capitalist Death Cult No One Wants To Work Anymore

Taking a break from the Madbean bonanza since Chris Stelloh sent a layout and a schematic of one his creations. Some words from the man himself: And yes, this layout is verified.

Here is something I came up with recently that shakes the pillars of heaven, via WAY TOO MANY cuts and jumpers.

It is essentially the modded fuzz face circuit from the Apocalypse Audio H Fuzz with an input buffer (sacrelige, I know), followed by a 5 band gyrator EQ. I used the values from the Dunwich Left Hand Path modded HM-2 and added a 5th lower gyrator that centers at 60Hz, so that bassists can bring the buzzsaw, too. The gain squeals when maxed, but the gate will still clamp down on it nicely. The d311 germanium diode is most likely not necessary. Anything with a .3v volt drop will probably do the job. The 50k trimmer sets the treble content from the fuzz before it hits the EQ stage and sounds best (to me) at about 1 o'clock, but to each their own. This WILL fit in a 1590bb, but just barely!

  1. It's just me commenting on one of my own layouts... again. I drew the schematic first and the strip drawing second, which, as I understand, is the way it usually is supposed to go... Anyway - the schematic is labelled with all the EQ gyrators assigned to 2xTL074 IC's. I divided one of those chips into 2xTL072's once I did the strip drawing since it fit better that way. Just wanted to clarify in case anyone noticed the discrepancy.

  2. I like gyrators, this looks fun. Hopefully 2n1306's work fine here, think I'll give it a try.

    1. 2n1306's are MUCH higher in gain but they will work. The only thing you may have to do is up the value of the gate threshold ("Thresh") pot to 250 or 500k. And if you can test for hfe, put the lower gain one in the Q2 position.

    3. Thanks for the pot tips, will keep that in mind if I have issues. Just have a bunch of 1306's in my stash that are very low leakage, in the 70-90hfe range and trying to avoid germanium shopping, haha.

    4. 2n1306's were the only NPN germaniums I had on hand when I did my my first build of this - I was still waiting on my lot of MP38's to show up in the mail. They worked fine - you should be good. Best of luck to you!

    5. Thanks! yah I have 1308's as well, but those are all over 100hfe. I've noticed the 1304/6/8 is usually very consistent in regards to leakage, and are typically plug in play without the addition of reverse biasing germ diodes. Cool circuit, hope to start on it early next week.
